Apple has become half a country of smart watches, Fitbit has been defeated by Samsung

On August 7, it was reported that the latest report of Strategy Analytics, a market research organization, showed that in the second quarter of this year, global smart watch shipments increased by 44% year-on-year, from 8.6 million to 12.3 million. Apple's products accounted for almost half of the total shipments, and they sold 5.7 million smart watches between April and June this year.

Apple's market share increased to 46.4% from 44.4% last year. Analysts believe that this overwhelming advantage will continue for several years, just like the tablet computer market. Samsung is challenging Apple's position. The Galaxy Watch Active launched in early 2019 helped Samsung significantly increase sales.

Samsung's market share increased from 10.5% to 15.9%, and its shipment volume (2 million pieces) in the last quarter doubled compared with the same period last year. Strategy Analytics predicts that the newly released Galaxy Watch Active 2 will consolidate Samsung's position in the smart watch market.

Compared with Samsung, Fitbit seems to be struggling. Although its smart watch shipments dropped from 1.3 million to 1.2 million, its market share fell from 15.2% to 9.8%. Obviously, the low-cost Fitbit Versa Lite is not attractive enough, while Fitbit Versa is a bit less modern. However, Fitbit Versa 2 is about to be released. In order to maintain its position, Fitbit needs to win the competition with Fossil, Garmin and other companies.
