Be the first to experience the latest Android - Android Q trial experience

In the early morning of May 8, Beijing time, Google released the next generation system of Android at the 2019 I/O developer conference. The first batch of supported mobile phone manufacturers also released the full Android Q flash kit at the first time. The author also used the one plus six and Reno ordinary version to flash Android Q at the first time. Now we use these two mobile phones, one plus six as the main and Reno as the auxiliary, to show you the characteristics of Android Q.

UI Appearance

Android Q's built-in default wallpaper is black abstract style, and the manufacturer has also made semi customized icons. The drop-down notification bar icons become larger, and one page can display 9 icons. The brightness is adjusted at the top, and there is no automatic brightness adjustment button. One plus this Android Q trial version is based on the Oxygen OS abroad. Reno modifies the desktop, settings, status bar and other UI on a native basis to make it more in line with ColorOS style.

The security patch was updated to May 5. GPU driver version V @ 385. The egg is still the continuation of Android P.

Dark Mode

The dark mode that has been tested for a long time has finally been realized on Android Q. This mode has been available in the previous beta version, but the official version has not been actually installed. Google is also focusing on the promotion of this function, and will undoubtedly log on to the official version of Android Q.

In System Settings - Display - Theme Settings, there is a dark mode option. After switching, the status bar and setting interface become dark wallpaper. This function is global, that is, if the app used supports this mode, it will switch automatically. But at present, there are few applications supported, even Google's own brand browser Chrome is not suitable, let alone domestic common software such as Taobao and WeChat. In the default application, only the album application supports automatic switching to dark mode.

At present, more and more mobile phones use OLED screens, One of the characteristics of OLED screen is that black does not emit light, so when the screen displays a large area of black, the power consumption is greatly reduced. So Google tactfully added the function of automatic switching to dark mode in the power saving mode, and turned on the power saving mode to automatically switch to dark mode to achieve true power saving. This function is forced to switch, Even if the power consumption of your LCD screen does not decrease, the power-saving mode is still forced on.

Add new gesture operation

In System Settings Gestures System navigation, you can set to use full screen gestures or the three King Kong keys. The demo animation has not yet been adapted, and they are all the same. Once you haven't found this option for the time being, you can use Reno to demonstrate.

There are three options, some of which have not been translated into Chinese:

  1. Fully gestural navigation

  2. 2-button navigation

  3. 3-button navigation

Respectively:

  • With the new gesture operation, the navigation bar becomes a bar, the operation logic is similar to MIUI, and the navigation bar occupies a small area.

  • It is the familiar Android P gesture operation.

  • Three ancestral Vajra keys. There is nothing to say about this.

The following focuses on the new gesture operation:

Draw up the bottom of the application to return to the desktop.

The second level menu of calling out application is drawn on the bottom of the desktop.

Sliding up and hovering is to open the multitasking interface. The multi task interface can also call out the secondary menu by drawing on the bottom.

Applying inner side sliding inward is global return. Is it deja vu? It is the MIUI operation logic.

Sliding the navigation bar left and right is to switch applications. I have to say that Google's animation is very good, and the switching between applications is very smooth.

This navigation bar will still occupy a certain screen area, but it is much better than the previous gesture operation.

Enhanced privacy protection

The user can limit the use of background location data of some apps. When the map software is opened for the first time, a new option "Allow access when the app is running" will be added, and the location data can only be accessed during the use of the app.

Google also provides the retention time settings for using activities (search records, etc.). You can choose to keep them for one month or three months, or delete them directly.

The integration of user data will upload the AI computing model to the cloud computing after the completion of mobile phones and other devices, so the use of AI technology will not infringe our privacy. There are also third-party applications that cannot obtain the IMEI hardware ID of the phone. Attempts to obtain the IMEI hardware ID can only receive a null value.

WiFi sharing QR code

A share button is added to the WiFi settings. Click it to display a QR code and password. After scanning with the QR code scanning tool, you can directly connect to WiFi.

The iOS device can also be connected by turning on the camera to scan the code. Previously, only the domestic UI had this function, but now Android Q is the standard configuration.

Other Exciting updates

  • With the addition of native support for folding screen, several folding screen devices running Android will debut this year. I wonder if the Mate X to be sold later will be equipped with Android Q?

  • Native support for 5G networks.

  • Android Q supports the distribution of some security updates through the Google Play store, but domestic users basically don't want to think about it. After all, China is Android.

Compatibility issues

This generation of Android Q has strong compatibility, and has tried several popular applications in China. In addition to the obvious stuttering on UC browser, Taobao, Tmall QQ、 WeChat and so on all work normally.

Known problems

Both phones have different problems. Let's start with the problems of both phones:

  • Automatic brightness cannot be used.

  • Fingerprint unlocking, Reno completely shielding password, fingerprint, and face unlocking functions cannot be used.

  • The system is unstable, and the two mobile phones have inexplicably crashed.

Plus, because the OxygenOS shell is used, there are fewer bugs:

  • You cannot install apk applications using a local file browser.

  • Camera portrait mode cannot be used.

  • The information screen display cannot be used.

  • Unable to send SMS.

Reno uses native Android Q, so there are many system bugs:

  • Unable to use to restore factory settings, the entrance has been shielded.

  • The camera application adaptation is not normal.

  • Filer glide back.

  • To make a call, you need to turn on the handsfree to hear the voice.

  • Long press the app or return to the desktop app icon to display an error.

The Android Q pilot version does not recommend users other than developers to swipe in. After all, many bugs affect the actual use experience. If you really want to try something new, you can also try to swipe in. The package can be obtained in the forum or other channels. It is recommended to back up important files on your phone before swiping, because swiping into Android Q will clear all data, including photos, music, and videos.

summary

The update of Android in recent years focuses on increasing the user experience: global dark mode, closer and closer to Apple's privacy protection, better use of full screen gesture operation... These are all real feelings of users.

However, your mobile phone... does it use Android P?
