On April 17, Apple announced that it had reached a settlement agreement with Qualcomm.

It is reported that Apple will pay Qualcomm at least $4.5 billion in compensation, which is converted into RMB 30.3 billion. However, this is only a drop in the bucket for Apple's cash. CNBC said that the company currently has $225.4 billion, which is stable.

The result of the settlement between the two companies was actually a bit unexpected. According to Bloomberg, Apple believed that Intel could not be ready before the arrival of the 5G iPhone, so the former could only choose to settle with Qualcomm and make compensation.

Interestingly, Apple poached Umashankar Thyagarajan, who is responsible for Intel 5G technology, before settling with Qualcomm. It should be a decision made to not be restricted by Qualcomm and still choose to research and develop by itself, so as to get rid of them in the future.

After the compensation, Apple and Qualcomm will sign a six-year licensing agreement, including a two-year extension option, so that Apple can finally end this global legal battle. Qualcomm will also become a cooperative supplier of Apple. At least until Apple can independently produce the 5G modem, the two companies should always cooperate. Steve Morenkov, CEO of Qualcomm, also said: We are very happy to reach a cooperation agreement with Apple and hope to provide support for them in the future.
