Research shows that drivers who play with mobile phones are more lethal than those who drink

On April 10, it was reported by the foreign media Phonearena that Zendrive, an analysis company, recently released a research report, which collected driving data of some drivers and their total driving mileage exceeded 160 billion miles.

Research shows that people who like to talk on the phone while driving are more dangerous than those who drink and drive. It is reported that 6227 passers-by were "most likely" killed by drivers who were using mobile phones last year. Zendrive said that 28% of mobile phone addicts did not pay attention to the road when driving. They spent 1.5 times more time on the road and 3 times more time driving with mobile phones than ordinary people.

Although 90% of the respondents claimed that they were safe drivers, 47% of them spent 10% or more of their time using mobile phones while driving. Those drivers who are distracted by mobile phones do more harm to passers-by than those who drink. A test shows that people who use mobile phones while driving have the same problem as those whose blood alcohol concentration is 0.08%. In addition, drivers who use smart phones are more likely to have crashes. Their braking speed is reduced by 9%, and they are often too close to the vehicle in front. After braking, the speed of returning to normal is 19% slower.

Zendrive quoted a research result from the Traffic Safety Foundation of the American Automobile Association. Between midnight and 3am, the number of drunk drivers is the largest. The peak time for mobile phone addicts on the road is from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., during which the traffic is busier. Therefore, drivers who are distracted by mobile phones pose a greater threat on the road than drivers who drink and drive.

Zendrive suggested that the driver can set the auto answer function on the mobile phone before driving. For example, the iPhone has this function. This setting can block any message, unless you have previously marked as an emergency, it can also send a reply message saying that you are driving and cannot be disturbed. After the auto answer is enabled, if the same person makes two consecutive calls, the second call will be connected. Of course, if your iPhone is connected to a Bluetooth headset, all calls will be connected, because you can make calls with the headset.

Similar functions are available on Android phones. Some models need to install third-party software, such as Driving Detective.
