Love to play computer games On November 2, it was reported that IDC, a famous data company, recently released a global smartphone report for the third quarter of 2018. The total shipments of manufacturers were 352.2 million, down 6.0% year on year. This is the fourth consecutive quarter of year-on-year decline in the global smartphone market, and some people are worried about the market outlook. IDC said that the global smartphone market will resume growth in 2019. Next year, a batch of mobile phones supporting 5G networks will be launched, which should become a driving point of the market. However, IDC cannot predict the extent of growth. In the third quarter, Samsung was still the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, accounting for 20.3% of shipments, while China was the world's largest smartphone consumer market, accounting for about one-third of the world's shipments.
Samsung's shipments fell 13.4% this quarter, leaving 72.2 million units. Several manufacturers have put pressure on Samsung, and Huawei is the biggest competitor. Huawei has ranked second in the world for two consecutive quarters, with the latest share of 14.6%. However, because Apple released three new iPhones in September, the gap narrowed compared with the second quarter. Apple's shipments in the third quarter accounted for 13.2%, ranking third in the world.
Xiaomi ranks fourth in the world with 34.3 million units, accounting for 9.7%, and OPPO ranks fifth with 29.9 million units, accounting for 8.4%. The market share of other manufacturers further shrank, only 33.8%, 19.9% lower than that in the third quarter of last year.
IDC also said that China's smartphone market has been declining since the second quarter of 2017, and now has shrunk for six consecutive quarters. The Chinese market fell by 11% in the first half of 2018, but IDC expects that the decline will slow down next year.
