Earlier, the foreign media Anandtech found that Huawei/Glory mobile phones would automatically identify the scorecard software and start the "cheating" mode, which could improve the performance of mobile phones by 47% in the 3DMark test, but such performance was not applied in the user's preferred scenarios. UL Benchmark (hereinafter referred to as UL), the parent company of the famous scoring product 3DMark, recently removed the 3DMark test scores of three Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei Nova 3 and Glory Play phones from the shelves. The reason is that these three phones violated UL's guidelines during the test, automatically identified the software, and deliberately improved the performance.
Huawei responded very quickly and immediately contacted UL, while Huawei's official response was made later on September 7: Huawei said that it had reached a consensus with UL, the parent company of 3DMark, that it would open the "performance mode" in the later updated EMUI 9.0 system, and the system would also provide options for users to choose whether to open the "performance mode"; UL said that it can understand the intention of Huawei's practice, but still has objections to its practice of opening "performance mode" by default in the run test. In the end, both parties jointly decided to temporarily remove the scoring data of Huawei equipment, and recover the related scoring data after Huawei officially opened the "performance mode" after its later system updates.

Joint statement of Huawei and UL
This week, Huawei and UL (the parent company of 3DMARK) had a comprehensive discussion on the scoring method, and reached a positive consensus on the next step of cooperation.
During the discussion, Huawei explained to UL the current AI intelligent scheduling mechanism of Huawei smart phones. Due to the different performance requirements of different scenarios, the latest version of Huawei smart phone system can give full play to hardware performance through AI intelligent scheduling and other advanced technologies to meet users' experience demands in different scenarios.
UL understood Huawei's intention, but disagreed with Huawei's default startup of "performance mode" in the score scoring scenario. The UL rule requires the device to enable the normal running mode just like other applications.
In order to respect the user's choice, Huawei will open the "performance mode" to users in the EMUI 9.0 version, so that users can choose to open the mode when necessary.
The two sides also discussed the current industry common scoring test method. UL and Huawei are willing to work together with their industry partners to continuously optimize the score test standards so as to better meet the needs of the industry, media and consumers.
In order to avoid confusion about the current scoring results, UL and Huawei agreed to temporarily remove the scoring data of a series of Huawei devices after discussion, and recover the scores after Huawei authorizes all its mobile phone users to access the "performance mode".
