Nokia Announces 5G Mobile Phone Patent Charging Standard, Much More Conscientious than Qualcomm

Love to play computer games On August 22, it was reported by foreign media that as one of the contributors of 5G communication technology, Nokia in Finland announced the license rate of 5G standard essential patents (SEPs) on Tuesday local time. Nokia expected to charge a license fee of 3 euros (about US $3.43) for each mobile phone using the company's 5G network patent technology.

Nokia said that by announcing a lower 5G patent fee, the company has significantly reduced the probability of disputes on patent licensing in the future, and may also make a big profit in the upcoming 5G devices. It should be noted that the patent licensing fee of 3 euros is only applicable to smart phones, and Nokia may announce patent charging standards for other 5G devices in the next time.

5G standard essential patent is the basic technology in 5G wireless communication. Nokia also said that a considerable part of the emerging 5G standard will be based on Nokia's innovation; Once the relevant standards are finalized later in 2018, Nokia will play an important role in SEPs.

It can be said that Nokia's patent fees for 5G smart phones are more conscientious, and we can make a comparison. At present, the technical contributors to the 5G international standard mainly include Qualcomm, Huawei, Ericsson, Samsung and Nokia. Ericsson's charging standard depends on the price of the mobile phone. Each mobile phone using Ericsson's 5G patent needs to pay a license fee of $2.50 to $5.

Although Samsung and Huawei have not yet announced the final charging standards, it can be predicted that Qualcomm's charges will be the most expensive. Qualcomm's previously announced information shows that it will charge 2.275% of the wholesale price for each single mode 5G mobile phone and 3.25% of the wholesale price for multimode 5G mobile phones. In addition, Qualcomm originally planned to set a ceiling of $500 for the price of the whole machine, which was later changed to $400. That is, Qualcomm can charge a maximum of $13 (about 90 yuan) for each 5G smartphone.

Previously, it was reported that Huawei would charge 5G patent fees for mobile phone manufacturers at 4% of the price of the complete machine, but Huawei later denied it. Xu Zhijun, the company's rotating chairman, said that Huawei would never use its patents to squeeze other companies or society.
