On August 31, Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei's consumer business, officially released the Kirin 980, Huawei's strongest mobile phone chip of the year, at the IFA.

Kirin 980 became the first mobile phone chip in the world to use the 7nm process, with 6.9 billion transistors crammed into an area of less than 100 square millimeters! Compared with the previous generation Kirin 970, its performance is 75% higher and its power consumption is 58% lower.

Thanks to the cooperation with Arm, Kirin 980 took the lead in adopting the Arm Cortex A76 architecture, which is also the first SoC in the world to adopt this new architecture. At the same time, in order to improve the user experience, Huawei has creatively adopted the big, medium and small core three gear design of two A76 with a main frequency of 2.6GHz, two A76 with a main frequency of 1.9GHz and four A55 with a main frequency of 1.8GHz, so as to achieve different flexible scheduling in different scenarios, improve the energy consumption ratio of the Kirin 980, and enhance the endurance.

In addition, the Kirin 980 is no inferior in terms of gpu, becoming the first product in the industry to use the Mali-G76 MP10. Compared with the G72 MP12 of the Kirin 970, the performance of the Kirin 980 has been improved by 46%, and the energy efficiency ratio has been improved to 178%!

Thanks to the support of Mail-G76, Huawei will make great progress in games. In addition to the AI FM technology, the Kirin 980 will effectively improve the user's game frame rate and experience.

In the aspect of AI that Huawei values most, Kirin 980 has integrated a dual core NPU for the first time, which can recognize 4500 images per minute, 120% faster than the previous generation of Kirin 970!

Kirin 980 will become the first product in the world to support LTE Cat.21, 4x4 MIMO, 5C and 256QAM, and support the highest 1.4Ghz download rate in the industry!

And Kirin 980 also carries the world's fastest mobile WiFi chip Hi1103, with a theoretical download speed of up to 1.7 GHz! At the same time, Hi1103 also supports L1+L5 dual band GPS precise positioning, which can effectively improve the accuracy of mobile phone positioning, and is not afraid of getting lost in complex areas.

At the press conference, Yu Chengdong said that the performance of the Kirin 980 is terrible, and it is better than the Snapdragon 845 in all fields.

It is worth noting that the Kirin 980 will support 5G this time, but only with an external Baron 5000 baseband modem. This is similar to the Snapdragon 855 plug-in X50 baseband.

At the end of the speech, Yu Chengdong also brought the news of the new flagship Mate 20. Huawei will officially release the Mate 20 series on October 16, and it is the world's first Kirin 980 model. Please look forward to it.
