Love to play computer games On August 1, it was reported that a few days ago, IDC, a market research organization, published a report on the global smartphone market in the second quarter of 2018 (2018Q2). According to the data, the global shipments of smartphone manufacturers in this quarter were 342 million units, compared with 348.2 million units in the same period last year, a year-on-year decrease of 1.8%. This is the third consecutive quarterly decline in the global smartphone market, and also the fourth quarterly decline in history.
IDC believes that the above situation is due to fluctuations in some highly mature markets, but many fast-growing markets still exist, which will bring the shipments of the global smartphone market back to overall growth.
The latest report shows that Huawei's global shipments exceeded Apple's for the first time, ranking second in the world with 54.2 million units. The former's market share was 15.8%, compared with 11.0% last year. Huawei's progress to the second place in the world is inseparable from the success of the Chinese market. This company accounted for 27.0% of shipments in the Chinese smartphone market in the second quarter of 2018.
Although Samsung dropped 10.4% year on year, it is still the global shipping champion, accounting for 20.9% of the market. Xiaomi, ranked fourth, surged 48.8% year on year, which was also the highest among the top five. OPPO ranked fifth with 29.4 million units, accounting for 8.6%.
Ryan Reith, vice president of IDC's global mobile device tracking project, said that in most markets, high-end mobile phones with more than $700 are basically competed by Apple, Samsung and Huawei. This situation will not change much in the short term, while Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo are infiltrating upward at slightly lower prices than the first three.
The iPhone X has performed well in the high-end market. For example, since last November, it has been the best selling stand-alone model in China. IDC analysts believe that Apple will regain control of the market this fall because the company will launch three new iPhones with different prices and functions.
Yu Chengdong, senior vice president of Huawei, has said on many occasions that Huawei's mobile phone goal is to be the first in the world. Although there is a giant like Samsung ahead, and Apple will fight back, it is at least closer to the goal now.
