Vivo will release new 3D recognition technology on June 27: accuracy is ten times higher than Apple iPhone X!

Love to play computer games On June 21, it was reported that Vivo released the real full screen mobile phone NEX on June 12, which turned many netizens into fans. Now this new phone has not been launched yet, another blockbuster news came: Vivo will release new 3D imaging technology on MWCS (World Mobile Congress Shanghai Station) on June 27.

According to an insider, vivo recently sent an invitation to the relevant people for MWCS activities, confirming that it would release a new technology. According to the leaked official video, this technology is likely to be 3D imaging. The video promotes the 3D modeling function, that is, the user inputs the 3D information of his face into the mobile phone.

The previously exposed information shows that the mobile phone supporting the new technology is equipped with an infrared camera and a TOF laser transmitter, so the principle of vivo's 3D imaging technology should be TOF. TOF is also called Time of Flight. By scanning the surface of an object with multiple lasers, the sensor system will measure the time when the laser arrives at the object and returns. Because the face is not a plane, the return time of each infrared ray emitted is different. The system will measure the distance of each point according to the return time to build a 3D model.

Unlike TOF, which uses infrared reflection time difference to model, the basic principle of 3D structured light used on Apple iPhone X is single camera and projection stripe spot coding. It emits light with a certain structure from the dot matrix projector to the target object, and then the infrared camera collects different image phase information. The phone will convert the structural changes into depth information, The 3D model is drawn.

Compared with 3D structured light, TOF has better overall performance, faster response time and lower power consumption. In addition, according to the informant, vivo's 3D imaging technology has more than 300000 scanning points, while there are only 30000 on the iPhone X, which means that the accuracy of vivo's 3D imaging technology may be ten times that of Apple.

It should be noted that vivo demonstrated the screen fingerprint technology at MWC Shanghai in 2017, and the X20 Plus screen fingerprint version was launched six months later. If Vivo's pace is faster this time, we may see a new Vivo machine that truly supports 3D face recognition in the fourth quarter of this year.
