Recently, the controversy about Lenovo's vote in the 2016 3GPP conference has been raging. Lenovo and Huawei, the protagonists in the event, have made relevant statements for many times, but the heat of this matter does not seem to have dropped, and it has become increasingly fierce. Liu Chuanzhi, the founder of Lenovo who has retired for six and a half years, could not sit still. On the morning of May 16, he sent a joint open letter with Yang Yuanqing and Zhu Linan, the president of Lenovo Holdings, calling on Lenovo's team to take action and fight to win the war of honor.
Liu Chuanzhi said in his letter that Lenovo's reputation has been seriously challenged by some articles recently that have put the label of "traitorous" on Lenovo's head and have become increasingly vocal. After a detailed investigation, Liu Chuanzhi said that Lenovo followed two principles in the voting of the entire 5G channel coding standard scheme: one was to safeguard the interests of the enterprise itself, and the other was to focus on the overall situation, that is, the interests of the country and industry development.
The open letter also introduced the two rounds of voting contested by netizens. In the first round of voting for the 5G eMBB scheme (RAN1 # 86bis), Lenovo chose the LDPC (rumored to be Qualcomm) scheme in consideration of Lenovo's early technology and patent reserves; In the second round (RAN1 # 87) of voting, Lenovo chose the Polar code (Huawei) scheme for the sake of the country's overall industrial innovation and development.
Liu Chuanzhi said that there was no problem with Lenovo's voting principles and implementation results, which was also recognized by Mr. Ren Zhengfei of Huawei. Liu Chuanzhi and Ren Zhengfei reached a consensus that Chinese enterprises should unite and not be provoked by outsiders. After the release of this open letter, several senior executives, including Yang Yuanqing, forwarded it.
