Meizu brought us the work of the 15th anniversary at the end of April 2018 - Meizu 15 series. At the same time, there is a new Flyme 7 system. At present, the 18:9 full screen or Liu Haiping, the trend of the smartphone market, does not appear in Meizu 15 series. It is still the familiar 16:9 screen. Meizu 15, as a seemingly "anti trend" machine, how does it perform? After a period of use, Meizu 15 is Meizu's Premium Standard model.
Appearance and feel
According to the official statement, Meizu 15 is the "small test knife" created by Huang Zhang, the founder of Meizu 15. He is known as the spiral micrometer hand, and naturally has an unusual attachment to the hand feeling held by one hand. The final width of Meizu 15 has been maintained at 72mm, which is the same as the MX3 in that year. With a thickness of about 7mm and a rounded edge transition, Meizu 15 does have an excellent hand holding feel, which is unique among 5.5 inch models at the same level.
In the appearance design, Meizu 15 adheres to the symmetrical design of "centering", and the front camera, Home key, rear dual camera and ring flash are all on the central axis; 16: Although the screen of 9 is common, its screen proportion is no less than that of today's nominal "full screen" machines. The black edge control on both sides is excellent. I believe many people will be amazed when the screen is lit. This "traditional" and "modern" design also brings about some small problems. The Home key, which has been greatly reduced in size in order to take into account the screen, should try to follow the gesture of daily use when entering fingerprints, otherwise it is easy to be unrecognizable.
Customized screen quality
Meizu 15 series uses the Super AMOLED screen customized to Samsung, not the 18:9 full screen purchased in large quantities by domestic manufacturers. Meizu 15's screen is 5.46 inches in size, with a resolution of FHD (1920x1080) and a PPI of 403. The system provides four different display modes: adaptive, standard, photo and bright, and supports adjusting the color temperature.
The default color temperature of the adaptive mode is 7400K, which is not unexpectedly cool. This screen can cover 133.5% of the sRGB color gamut, and the average DeltaE is 4. Although it can not match the color accuracy of Apple or Samsung, it is already a good parameter in AMOLED screen, and it can cover a larger 145.4% of the sRGB color gamut by changing to the bright mode.
In the standard mode, the screen covers 91.2% of the sRGB gamut, and the color accuracy is improved. The average DeltaE is 3.2. As for the color gamut coverage in the photo mode, it is 98.6% sRGB, 89.3% Adobe RGB, and 87.5% DCI-P3, respectively.
Performance and system
In terms of performance, Meizu 15 series is a bit special. It is the first time that Meizu has adopted Qualcomm SoC models in its flagship series. Even though the most high-end Meizu 15 Plus is still using the Exynos 8895 of Hikyou Samsung, it is also a breakthrough in Meizu's history. Back to Meizu 15 itself, SoC provides the familiar Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 with 4GB memory and 64GB/128GB versions.
In the CPU part, the Snapdragon 660 of Meizu 15 is playing steadily. The single core score is more than 1600 points, and the multi-core score is close to 6000 points, which is at the same level as other machines equipped with Snapdragon 660 on the market.
There was no surprise in the GPU score, which was the normal level of Snapdragon 660. However, it was slightly strange that the test of Tyrannosaurus Rex measured the highest score of 51 frames in all Snapdragon 660 machines, which was 1 frame higher than the products of friends (laugh). In the performance part, Meizu 15 is the normal level of a Snapdragon 660 machine.
The system part is naturally Meizu's flagship Flyme 7. Based on Android 7.1.1, it continues the previous simple and beautiful design language, integrates the One Mind intelligent thinking engine, and adds and completes multiple functions. Flyme 7 is the most complete system of Meizu so far. More about the system part can be found at Cultivation of Internal Skills, Meizu Flyme 7 Experience View in.
Upgraded dual camera strength
Meizu 15 is inferior to the more high-end Meizu 15 Plus in processor, but the hardware of the two cameras is the same, equipped with 12 million wide-angle+20 million telephoto, and the CMOS used is Sony's IMX 380 (the same model as Huawei P20)+IMX 350, F/1.8 aperture, 1.55 μ m per pixel area, OIS optical anti shake, multi frame noise reduction+HDR algorithm provided by Hongruan cooperation, and up to three times of lossless zoom. Coincidentally, the Xiaomi update MIX 2S next door is also making great progress in the photo taking part. With Sony IMX363 with OIS optical anti shake and Samsung S5K3M3 without optical anti shake (dual 12 million wide-angle+telephoto combination), the main camera has a 1.4 μ m unit pixel area, and the aperture is f/1.8 like Meizu 15, known as AI super sensitive dual camera. The old enemies who have been separated for many years, let's compare their progress this time.

1x and 2x zoom of Xiaomi MIX 2S
In the ultra long distance, both Meizu 15 and Xiaomi MIX 2S can see the huge improvement brought by the zoom. However, compared with the stable white balance performance of Meizu 15, the white balance of Xiaomi MIX 2S double zoom is completely drifting. Meizu 15 is a little better than Meizu 15 in terms of discrimination. It not only has a slight advantage in the 2x zoom, but also can further improve the 3x zoom.

In the case of shooting at ordinary distance, the Xiaomi MIX 2S double zoom has a greater increase, although the white balance is still far from the normal shooting time difference; Meizu 15's picture brightness has improved to a certain extent when it zooms at 3x, but its analytical power is almost the same as that of 2x zoom, and 2x zoom still retains more details of road signs. In the case of sufficient light, Meizu 15 and Xiaomi MIX 2S can bring better detail performance after zooming, and can be switched freely according to the situation. In addition to paying attention to the strange white balance changes after the double zooming of MIX 2S.

In the comparison of daytime proofs, Meizu 15 and Xiaomi MIX 2S are very similar. Noise control, white balance and discrimination have made great progress compared with previous models. The difference between various scenes is more just the orientation of white balance. Of course, if you view the sample on your mobile phone, the Samsung customized AMOLED screen of Meizu 15 will make users feel more dazzling, and the Xiaomi MIX 2S can't compete with it.

1x and 2x zoom of Xiaomi MIX 2S
When switching to the low light environment, the zoom of Meizu 15 and Xiaomi MIX 2S is basically useless at a very long distance. After zooming, the distance cannot be extended from the normal shooting and amplification, which is different from the situation when the light is sufficient. Sometimes it is better to cut directly on the original sample.

1x and 2x zoom of Xiaomi MIX 2S
For ordinary distance shooting, the noise control after zooming is not as good as that of ordinary shooting, and there is no obvious advantage in details. At the same time, Meizu 15's 3x zoom and Xiaomi MIX 2S's 2x zoom roll over on white balance. It is suggested that when there is insufficient light, you should shoot normally near the point. Their zoom is useless at this time.

The performance of night proof is similar to that of daytime proof. They are almost at the same level in noise control and discrimination, and glare control is also good. However, Meizu has some problems to complain about on the white balance this time. Once in a dark environment, the white balance of Meizu 15 will become unstable, and the overall red and green balance will occur. In addition, the white balance of the two pictures taken before and after will occasionally be different. In contrast, the Xiaomi MIX 2S will be very stable, with sufficient exposure, which is basically similar to the situation seen by the naked eye. Meizu needs to improve this in the later firmware.
In general, using the summary of Xiaomi MIX 2S, it can be said that this is the best model of Meizu ever taking photos. The zoom performance under sufficient light is impressive, but the problem of white balance at night needs to be improved.
No surprises in the endurance
Meizu 15 has a 3000mAh battery, which is matched with Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. Its endurance performance is the same as the performance part. It is a normal result and will not bring surprises, but there is no problem in supporting a normal day of use: after a 2-hour endurance test, 78% of the power is left.
tail
Every time I see Meizu 15, I always think of the Xperia X and X Compact product lines that have been cut off by Sony. A series called Premium Standard: slightly downgraded in SoC, but other parts remain at the same level as the flagship model, providing users with lower prices but experience similar flagship products. Such a product has not been recognized by the market in Sony. At the same time, Meizu 15 has many advantages: comfortable hand feel in one hand, good vibration feedback of mEngine touch engine, good screen proportion and other online parameters that can not be realized. It needs to touch the real machine offline to experience, which is undoubtedly a higher threshold for consumers to move. Let's wait and see whether Meizu's Premium Standard product can capture more markets.
