HTC is developing Snapdragon 855 mobile phones, with the first 5G?

Recent signs indicate that HTC will release HTC U12 series flagship phones in May this year. The new phones are equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, built-in 3500 mAh battery, pre installed Android 8.0 system, support Bluetooth 5.0, and support IP68 dustproof and waterproof.

HTC U12 has not been officially released yet, but it has been reported that HTC is preparing for the next generation of flagship phones. According to Roland Quandt, a foreign informant, HTC has been testing Snapdragon 855 processor for some time, but this does not mean that devices equipped with this chip will be released soon.

In February this year, Qualcomm announced that its 5G mobile processor will use Samsung's 7nm LPP EUV process, which has 10% performance improvement or 35% power reduction over the 10nm FinFET used by Snapdragon 845. Before that, Qualcomm also said that the first generation 7nm chip would be represented by TSMC, and Qualcomm also promised that the world's first 5G mobile phone would appear in the first half of 2019. Therefore, some netizens speculated that Snapdragon 855 has two versions, the basic version does not support 5G networks, and the other is an upgraded version with built-in 5G baseband.

Earlier, Lenovo announced at the Pledge Conference that it would strive to launch the first mobile phone equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 in China and support 5G networks. Therefore, we have reason to believe that HTC's flagship mobile phone Snapdragon 855 will also support 5G networks.
