According to insiders, Huawei Kirin 980 has entered the mass production stage and will start mass production this quarter. It will use the latest 7nm manufacturing process of TSMC. Huawei has a very close cooperation with TSMC. Previously, several Kirin SoCs were also produced by TSMC. Kirin 970 is the first SoC adopting TSMC's 10nm process.
The source said that Huawei Kirin 980 is likely to be the first 7nm mobile phone chip to be released in mass production. The CPU will use ARM A75 architecture, while the GPU will still be the Mali series. This generation of Kirin 980 will carry more and more NPU neural network units for AI acceleration. AI computing will be a major direction of the future of the Kirin series.
In Huawei's consistent style, the Kirin 980 will definitely be the first to appear on the Mate 11 series of products, and it will not appear until August to September this year at the earliest.
