Earlier in 2016, Bloomberg revealed that Apple would terminate the AirPort series of wireless network devices at some time in the future. Now Apple has officially announced that it will stop selling AirPort products.
At present, Apple's AirPort series has four models on sale, namely AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Return Cabin 2/3TB. Although the AirPort series is one of the first devices to support 5GHz WiFi with Mac hardware, these products have not been updated for many years since their launch, and it is not a strange thing that they have been cut down in Apple's style.
"We're discontinuing the Apple AirPort base station products. They will be available through Apple.com, Apple's retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers while supplies last."
According to Apple's response, all AirPorts can receive technical support and maintenance before the corresponding consumables inventory is used up, but it is unclear how long they can support. Users who are using AirPort series products are suggested to find corresponding alternatives before the end of their service life.
