On April 9, Tuosula Automobile Sales Co., Ltd. (Tesla China) filed a recall plan with the AQSIQ. From June 28, 2018, it recalled some Model S series vehicles produced from September 11, 2013 to April 9, 2016. According to statistics, 8898 vehicles were involved in the mainland of China.
The problem that led to the recall of Model S this time is that when some Model S were exposed to high corrosive environment such as strong deicing salt for a long time, the aluminum bolts of the steering gear motor fixed on the steering gear housing may be corroded, resulting in weakened or broken bolt efficiency. If the bolt is broken, it is likely to cause the drive belt to slip, which will eventually lead to the weakening or loss of steering power, and there is a safety problem.
For the recalled vehicles, Tuosula Automobile Sales Co., Ltd. (Tesla China) will carry out free maintenance and inspection for the vehicles, replace all steering gear bolts with steel bolts, and add anti-corrosion coating on the housing and the screw fixed by the motor. This full set of maintenance and inspection takes 1 hour.
It is known that this is the largest recall of Tesla in China.
