Today, Baidu officially released the Apollo 2.5 software platform to its partners. At the press conference, Baidu employees said to the media that Meituan and Baidu had reached an agreement and planned to take the lead in testing driverless meal delivery in Xiong'an. It is reported that the plan was originally expected to be announced on May 1, but the cement road used for the test has not been paved, and the optimal driving effect of unmanned vehicles on the dirt road cannot be guaranteed, so the cooperation plan may be delayed.
On the issue of how to specifically apply driverless delivery to food delivery, the staff member said that driverless delivery would not focus on batch delivery, as the delivery boys used to do point to point delivery on electric bikes and motorcycles. Baidu may consider that a car can deliver more food than a motorcycle. If it receives orders from individual customers, it will waste resources seriously. Of course, because it is driverless, food is likely to be delivered without supervision, and receiving orders from individual customers will increase uncertainty.
Baidu employees further said that driverless meal delivery can improve the safety and personnel allocation of traditional meal delivery, and save costs, but the use scenario is more closed and restrictive. For example, Sina employees can use driverless meal delivery when they buy KFC in a group.
