Recently, Canalys, a market research company, announced the sales volume of Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+in the first month. This mobile phone was released in February this year and launched in the middle of March worldwide. The sales volume exceeded 8 million in the fourth week after the launch, of which 2.8 million were shipped to the United States, and nearly 1 million new phones were sold in the South Korean market. The sales volume of the Galaxy S9+is higher than that of the Galaxy S9, mainly because the former is equipped with dual cameras, which is not much higher than the price of the S9.
The sales volume of Samsung Galaxy S9 in the first month exceeded that of Galaxy S8, but it did not achieve 9 million units in the first month like that of Galaxy S7. Analyst Ben Stanton said that because the upgrade rate of the Galaxy S9 is not much higher than that of the Galaxy S8, Samsung's achievements are impressive. Samsung's market strategy has been "significantly improved", so it is expected to launch the Galaxy S9 in more regions. At the same time, Samsung executives are eager to surpass the sales of the Galaxy S8 in new models.
At present, some regions have already stimulated sales through discount promotions. It is obvious that Samsung will sacrifice some profits to ensure its market share. However, it should be noted that S7 and S7 Edge are one of Samsung's best-selling flagship phones, and their shipments reached 48 million in the year of launch, while the S8 series was only 41 million.
It is reported that Samsung's competitor Apple is having a hard time. Canalys predicts that the iPhone X shipments in the first quarter of 2018 will be less than 14 million, down from 29 million in the fourth quarter of 2017. Divide the shipment volume of iPhone X in the fourth quarter of last year by three, and we can see that the average monthly shipment volume of iPhone X in the three months after its launch is 9.67 million, more than Samsung Galaxy S9 series. Canalys analysts believe that Apple's recent performance clearly shows the challenges faced by high-end mobile phones. The novelty of high-end smart phones is disappearing, and the 18:9 screen, dual cameras and other functional features are quickly transferred to low-end mobile phones.
