Apple Jedi killed Samsung, the latest IDC market data released

On February 2, IDC released the latest global smartphone market data. In the fourth quarter of 2017, 403.5 million smart machines were shipped worldwide, down 6.3% from 430.7 million in the same period of 2016. In 2017, the global smartphone market shipped 1.472 billion units, less than 1% less than the 1.473 billion units shipped in 2016.

This year, both China and the United States have declined, but the glory vivo、 Xiaomi and OPPO still have a strong growth in the middle and low end market, while Apple, Samsung and Huawei have a stable share in the high-end market.

  • In the fourth quarter of 2017, the sales of iPhones reached 77.3 million. The sales of iPhones dropped slightly from the previous quarter, down 1.3% year on year, but it was enough for Apple to surpass Samsung and return to the first place. However, Apple's total sales volume in 2017 was 215.8 million units, an increase of 0.2% over 215.4 million units in 2016, and the annual sales volume still ranked second.

  • Although Samsung lost to Apple in the fourth quarter, its annual sales will still rank first. Samsung shipped 317.3 million units in 2017, up 1.9% from 311.4 million in 2016. Samsung shipped 74.1 million units in the fourth quarter, down 4.4% from the same period in 2016 (although Note 7 exploded that year, Apple has iPhone X and other models this year).

Domestic brands:

  • In the fourth quarter of 2017, Huawei shipped 4.1 million units, down 9.7% from 4.54 million units in the fourth quarter of 2016. Huawei's annual shipments were 153.1 million, up 9.9% from 139.3 million in 2016.

  • Xiaomi's market share increased from 3.3% to 7% in the second quarter of 2017 by virtue of the Indian and Russian markets. It is worth mentioning that in the Indian market, Red Rice 5A has cut more than 1 million sales in one month with the price of $78.

  • OPPO shipped 27.4 million units in the fourth quarter, maintaining a 12% growth throughout the year, with a total of 118 million units shipped. In addition to China, OPPO has seen good growth in emerging markets such as India, Indonesia and Vietnam. In India
