In September last year, Google officially announced that it would purchase HTC's Pixel mobile phone division at a price of 1.1 billion dollars, and HTC said that it would use this money to invest in some areas that they would pay more attention to in the future, including but not limited to VR AR、 Internet of Things and AI.

On January 30, Rick Osterloh, Google's vice president of hardware, said that Google's acquisition of HTC Pixel's mobile phone division had been completed. Although HTC's mobile phone department is not as good as before for HTC, it is just a need for general existence for Google at present. In recent years, Google Pixel series smart phones have made a strong contribution in the mobile phone market (excluding mainland China). Combined with Google's hardware ecology and AI technology, Pixel series smart phones are becoming more and more competitive in the international market.

Compared with a single mobile phone business, Google actually pays more attention to the hardware ecology, and mobile phones are a very important part of the hardware ecology. This US $1.1 billion transaction has enabled Google to obtain more than 2000 outstanding technical personnel from HTC mobile phone department. Meanwhile, the headquarters of HTC mobile phone department in Taipei has become Google's largest technology center in Asia.

It is worth noting that this $1.1 billion deal is not the acquisition of the entire HTC mobile phone department, but only for the Pixel team. HTC's mobile phone brand will still exist (HTC U11 team).
