Apple Face ID has its merits! Microsoft Ends Kinect Product Line

On October 26, 2017, Microsoft ended its Kinect product line.

Kinect is an Xbox accessory that provides motion tracking, visual recognition and voice functions. It first appeared at the E3 exhibition in 2009, code named "Natal". Kinect was officially released at the E3 exhibition the next year, with a cumulative sales of 35 million units. At that time, it was thought to be an accessory made from the somatosensory game used to stare at the Nintendo Wii, but it is different from the Wii and PlayStation Move handles of the same era. Kinect works through the depth camera, and can be used without the user holding the handle or sensor. Just like looking back now, this effect is also very amazing.

In addition, Kinect used to be the fastest selling consumer electronic product in history, but game users finally made a choice with their wallets. They preferred traditional consoles to somatosensory games. Later, many game content did not adapt to Kinect. Another reason that led to the decline of Kinect was that Microsoft bundled it with Xbox One for sale, resulting in the overall high price. Later, Microsoft had to sell Xbox One and Kinect separately again.

Although Kinect finally died, it paved the way for the later Microsoft HoloLens and MR hybrid reality, and even the face ID on the iPhone X (PrimeSense, the company that made the Kinect sensor, was later acquired by Apple). In a sense, Kinect is dead, but it is still alive. This is to commemorate a once great product.
