The biggest difference between Kirin 970 and its competitors is that it is equipped with a new NPU (Neural Network Processing Unit) dedicated hardware processing unit for AI computing. HiAI mobile computing architecture is designed, and its AI performance density is significantly better than that of CPU and GPU. Huawei officials said that compared with the four Cortex-A73 cores, the new heterogeneous computing architecture has about 50 times the energy efficiency and 25 times the performance advantage when dealing with the same AI tasks.

In other aspects, the Kirin 970 CPU still uses the combination of 4 * A73+4 * A53, and the frequency is similar to that of the Kirin 960. The large core is 2.4GHz, and the small core is 1.8GHz. The latest Cortex-A75 is not used; The GPU part has a large upgrade, with 12 Mali-G72 equipped for the first launch, but the frequency is unknown, and the actual performance needs to be verified; Support LPDDR4X and UFS 2.1, and upgrade dual ISPs; 4.5G LTE Modem is used on the network support, and the downlink can reach up to Cat.18 1.2Gbps, equaling Qualcomm's X20, making the Kirin 970 the fastest SoC in the world; TSMC's 10nm process integrates 5.5 billion transistors. It is officially announced that the power consumption of Kirin 970 has been reduced by 20%, the chip area has been reduced by 40%, but the performance has been improved by 20%.

At the end of the press conference, Yu Chengdong said that the Mate 10 with Kirin 970 will be officially released in Munich, Germany, on October 16. Now we can confirm that the processor of Mate 10 will not become its short board, just to see whether it can surprise us in other aspects.
