On August 21, Intel released the latest eighth generation of Core processors, starting with the low voltage version of the U series, including the Core i7-8650U, i7-8550U, i5-8350U, and i5-8250U Kaby Lake Refresh (Revised version), will be provided to OEM manufacturers in September, and products of other platforms will be available in autumn and later.
Perhaps because of the threat from AMD, the U-series processors have become 4-core 8-thread design, with the number of cores directly doubled compared with the 7-generation U-series, supporting dual channel DDR4-2400 or LPDDR3-2133 memory, and integrating UHD 620 core display. The U-series low-voltage CPU now dominates the notebook, ultrabooks and 2-in-1 tablet markets. The 8-generation U-series Core still maintains 15W thermal power consumption. Both i5s are equipped with 6MB of three-tier cache, while the three-tier cache of i7 has risen to 8MB.
I5-8250U has a default frequency of 1.6G and a maximum Rui frequency of 3.4G;
I5-8350U has a default frequency of 1.7G and a maximum Rui frequency of 3.6G;
I7-8550U has a default frequency of 1.8G and a maximum Rui frequency of 4.0G;
The i7-8650U has a default frequency of 1.9G and a maximum Rui frequency of 4.2G.
Officially, the performance is improved by about 40%, twice as fast as the old machine five years ago, and it can provide the endurance of 4K local video playback for 10 hours. Officially announced improvements generally have a certain amount of moisture, but the number of cores has doubled this year. Even if the performance of the same frequency IPC remains unchanged, the improvement is also very significant. However, compared with the performance, we should pay attention to the heat dissipation. Although the TDP maintains 15W, when the number of cores doubles, if the heat dissipation scale is close, the probability and frequency of hitting the power wall and the temperature wall will be much higher.
