The trend of dual camera is irreversible, but after the domestic flagship joined the dual camera this year, almost without exception, there was a regression. Either the optical anti shake was lost, or the size of the sensor was shrunk, causing everyone to have a bad impression on dual camera. The newly released Note8 has added dual cameras, but the main camera has not shrunk at all, and the telephoto sub camera has also added optical anti shake. Although it sounds like a conventional dual camera joining, this is definitely the biggest black technology and selling point at the Note8 launch conference.
The main camera parameters of the Bank of China version Note8 are completely consistent with those of S8/S8+, maintaining the 12 million pixel IMX333 sensor (the other version is S5K2L2), F1.7 aperture. The secondary camera is 2 times focal length, F2.4, and also supports optical anti shake. We first learned about the Note8 engineering machine of the Bank of China, and made a simple comparison of the photos taken by Note8. Our competitors are the S8+(G9500) version of the Bank of China and the iPhone 7 Plus:

The actual proof performance of Note8 is close to that of Galaxy S8+, but it may be because it is also an engineering machine. Note8 has a certain green tendency in the white balance of the lighting scene, but the amplitude is small. In light metering, Note8 is also slightly brighter than S8+, which causes Note8 to lose some details slightly due to higher exposure in some light scenes, but the amplitude is also very small. In extremely weak light, the sharpening and smearing strength of Note8 are improved to a certain extent, and the noise suppression and discrimination are slightly improved. In terms of saturation and contrast, Note8 and S8+are almost indistinguishable.
Although the sensor, aperture, ISP and other hardware are all identical, Samsung has been able to slowly squeeze/squeeze toothpaste with a slight improvement in each generation, which has to be admired.

The telephoto sub camera of Note8 has the same requirements for light intensity as the iPhone. If the light is too weak, the sub camera cannot be called, and the main camera is used for digital clipping output instead. Because the ambient light at the test site is weak, the long focus dual camera of Note8 and iPhone 7 Plus failed to trigger the secondary camera.
For the comparison of actual samples, the first reason is that the iPhone has an equivalent focal length of 28mm, which is smaller than the 26mm wide-angle lens of Note8, and the corresponding object of the iPhone is larger after twice magnification. Correspondingly, the field of view of iPhone will be smaller. However, the "2x zoom" of the two mobile phones has a very small improvement in noise control compared with pure digital trimming. Of course, the iPhone lags far behind whether it has a 2x zoom or not.
