Full slot point Sony Xperia Touch ultra short focus projector experience

The illness of a large company will lead to many interesting phenomena and products, such as Windows RT, which has not yet achieved its ambition, Moto mobile phone business, which has been swallowed up and spit out. This also happens to Sony. Sony Xperia Touch is a very popular product, but it is evaluated as "no future" by the industry. The real machine feels like an unfinished prototype when used. Even Sony itself may not know what the goal and positioning of this product is.

To sum up, Sony Xperia Touch is a portable ultra short focus intelligent projector with Android system that can recognize user touch operations (hence the product name Touch). It can project pictures on the horizontal or vertical plane, which is a very cool function - every desktop, floor or wall can be turned into a screen in theory.

As a device with its own Android system, Sony Xperia Touch has a similar layout to Android phones/tablets. The body is equipped with a camera, speakers, and SD card slot (because there is no SIM card slot, there is no call function). It has two working modes: desktop projection mode can project 23 inch pictures with touch function, and wall projection mode can project 80 inch pictures at most.

Although the projector is not a common household device, Sony has always emphasized that it is a household device. It can be used to play touch games, watch videos, or even be used as a whiteboard beside the door. However, the price of 1499 euros (11632 yuan) has always reminded us that this is not a "household" device in general.

Due to various design problems, Sony Xperia Touch is not suitable for these purposes mentioned above. Taking touch sensitivity as an example, even though it has been corrected correctly, the false touch rate is still very high, which is disappointing. If there is a remote control or USB control device such as mouse/keyboard, the situation will be much easier to use. But unfortunately, Sony has only designed one Type-C interface and one micro HDMI interface. If you consider the poor 1-hour battery life of Sony Xperia Touch, it is unlikely to use the mouse/keyboard. The only Type C interface has to be plugged in for charging (you need to buy a Type-C docking station). In addition, Sony Xperia Touch has canceled the 3.5mm headphone interface. You can only use your own speaker or Bluetooth speaker.

Another reason for saying that it is a semi-finished product is that its system is basically moved from Sony mobile phones... Believe me, this interactive experience is very "Sony". This UI was originally designed for devices around 5 inches, and when used on Sony Xperia Touch, it has a variety of horizontal stretching, which makes the effect sour and refreshing. In particular, the virtual keyboard directly ran across the 23 inch screen, which would be very tired and uncomfortable for typing. In addition, its own false touch would experience negative scores.

As a projector, brightness and picture quality are the core, but Sony Xperia Touch's performance is still disappointing. Its resolution is only 1366 * 768, and its extreme brightness is only 100 nits, which is basically unavailable in ordinary lighting environment. In addition, because of the ultra short focus, there will be mixed colors at the bottom of the display area, plus touch delay, which makes most games less enjoyable. In addition to the problems mentioned above, Xperia Touch has no voice control capability even when it has poor experience with various input methods.

Although the concept of Sony Xperia Touch is promising, there is still a long way to go before the actual product is available. Sony needs to make a lot of improvements. Although the ultra short focal projection is a very expensive product category, these cannot support the high price of Sony Xperia Touch.

Of course, even though there are many problems, Sony has done the right thing in some places: it can be used as a screen for other devices to cast screens through Miracast or other methods, or directly connected with micro HDMI; Sony has equipped Android 7.0 system for the machine. Although it has not optimized the usage scenarios of the projector, the Android system itself can reduce a lot of interaction costs; The volume and sound quality of the speakers are expected, but Xperia Touch has automatic laser focusing, which can provide a clear projection picture without manual intervention.

Of course, it is still completely unworthy of its own pricing. The combination of ultrashort focus projection and Android system is a good electronics, but the scheme of using an ordinary projector with an Android phone will be cheaper than it, and the picture effect and experience will be better. Of course, there will be no magical touch experience, but with Sony's current level of completion, it is no pity that there is no such function.

The concept of Sony Xperia Touch sounds beautiful, but the reality is really bony. Even a company with technology and belief like Sony can't make a decent product by itself.

fabulous:

  1. You can touch and operate on the projected image, which is very magical;

  2. Beautiful industrial design;

  3. The product is small and portable

Step on:

  1. Extremely short endurance;

  2. Touch delay;

  3. The color saturation of the projection picture is low and the brightness is insufficient;

  4. The sky high price
