At 21:30 on May 2, Beijing time, Microsoft held a "MicrosoftEDU" keynote speech. In addition to the regular introduction of software applications on Windows 10 devices, this keynote speech also brought us a lightweight Windows 10 S system and a new surface product (Surface Laptop).
Windows 10 S
From the operating interface, Windows 10 S is no different from the ordinary Windows 10 system, and its essence is still a Windows 10 system. It can normally open an exe file and run Win32 software. The biggest difference between it and ordinary Windows 10 is that all app software of Windows 10 S can only be downloaded and installed through the Windows Store. If you want to install an exe file, the prerequisite is that the Windows Store is installed on the goods.
Since most of the software on the Windows Store at this stage is still the UWP platform, there are many desktop applications for Windows 10 S that cannot be installed because they have not been launched. In order to make Windows 10 S lightweight, Microsoft also prohibits all traditional Win32 software from self starting after Windows 10 S devices are powered on, such as those domestic booting buckets
Windows 10 S targets Chrome OS, and Microsoft is very confident about it. It is lightweight on the basis of retaining Windows 10 functions. Since users can only download and install software in the Windows Store, this may give you the illusion of using the iPad. As the main education product, Windows 10 S has some built-in education functions, such as remote classroom, remote homework, learning chat room and other functions directly related to education. For schools using Windows 10 Pro, they can change the system to Windows 10 S for free, and they can also use the free version of Office 365 that comes with Windows 10 S. Finally, since the summer of this year (that is, now), many OEMs will launch Windows 10 S PC devices, starting at $189.
Surface Laptop
At the end of the press conference, we saw the head of Microsoft's equipment department, Panos Panay. Every time he appeared, he meant that there would be new hardware, and this time was no exception. The new surface brought to us by Panos Panay was called "Surface Laptop". From the name, we can see that this is a laptop in the traditional sense. Unlike the Surface or the Surface Book, its keyboard is not detachable.
parameter
From the perspective of parameter configuration, the Surface Laptop has not shrunk at all. The most pure seven generation core i5/i7 (not m5, m7), memory: 4GB/8GB/16GB, 3:2 screen, 201 PPI, weighs only 1252g, and the interface is relatively complete. The keyboard still uses the same advanced Alcantara fabric as the Surface Pro 4.
As for Microsoft's official 14.5 hour endurance data, I have doubts
The Surface Laptop comes in four different colors: cobalt blue, silver grey, graphite gold and purple red. Its starting price is not cheap, which is $999, that is, the minimum i5+4GB+128GB version is $999~
Surface Laptop comes with Windows 10 S, which can be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro for free. For ordinary consumers, upgrading it to Windows 10 Pro will cost an additional $49.
