HTC launched a new U series this year. As the flagship U Ultra, we believe everyone knows about it. Compared with the U Ultra, the U Play for the middle and low-end market has a more moderate screen size, similar design and 16 million cameras in front and back. In terms of parameters, the U Play is good as a middle and low-end machine, so what is the actual situation?
Appearance design
The first impression of U Play is that it is very smooth. The design of front and rear glass and metal middle frame brings a unique feel. The front and back of the U Play are almost completely symmetrical. The back, officially called ripple glass, presents different colors and luster from different angles. You can get a good texture whether you watch or use it. At the beginning, I mentioned that due to the design of the glass, it will be a bit slippery at the beginning of use, and it will take some time to get used to it. The 70% screen proportion is nothing special to say.
Fingerprint identification is integrated on the front Home key, and the two sides are hidden capacitor keys, which is the same design as before; Single speaker and Type-C data interface are arranged at the bottom. Because 3.5mm headphone hole is canceled, Type-C interface is also an audio interface; The power key and volume key on the right side feel good, and the layout is also very reasonable.
Screen performance
HTC didn't give any surprise to the 5.2 inch 1080P LCD screen. The actual display brightness is sufficient and sharp enough, and the PPI value is also above the average level. The color temperature of the whole screen is cold, and occasionally it turns green when displayed. This can be solved by manually adjusting the screen white balance; Outdoor visibility is average. Although the brightness is sufficient, the reflectivity of the panel is high.
Performance system
In terms of system, U Play is equipped with the latest Sense interface. Unfortunately, it is based on Android 6.0, not the latest nougat. It is expected to push updates later, which is generally close to the original Android design. As before, BlinkFeed integrates news and social sources on the left side of the main screen, and HTC Motion Lauch gestures provide shortcuts when the screen is turned off. At the same time, it is equipped with the latest Sense Companion, a voice assistant similar to Google Assistant or Siri, and has no special functions.
HTC U Play uses the Helio P10 of MediaTek in the SoC part, a 64 bit eight core (A53) processor with a maximum main frequency of 2GHz; The storage combination of 3G RAM+32G ROM (about 23G available) supports microSD expansion. It runs smoothly without obvious stuttering, and HTC has not made some cool and resource consuming transition animations on the system. For large 3D games, the performance is in urgent need, and the drive problem may lead to the limitation of the graphics chip of ARM. But for most daily operations, the processing capacity can meet the requirements.
Camera quality
U Play is equipped with a 16 million camera with optical anti shake, aperture of f/2.0, and phase focusing. It is higher than the U Ultra's 12 million pixels, but the unit pixel is only 1 µ m, so the imaging preview in weak light environment will not be particularly good. The front is also 16 million pixels, with UltraPixel mode, which can reduce the resolution and improve the sensitivity to take better photos.
The photographing interface is greatly simplified. There are only several commonly used modes and shooting buttons. In addition to the normal mode, professional Pro mode, HTC featured Zoe photos, panoramic photos are also provided. HDR supports manual adjustment.
The actual proof shows that no other brand likes warm or bright colors, so it looks closer to the reality, although most people prefer over saturated colors and higher contrast for photos. The samples can basically be exposed accurately. If HDR mode is deliberately turned on during shooting, the effect will be better. However, under less ideal conditions - such as cloudy days or indoor scenes, overexposure will occur. The front self timer is often overexposed due to more light input in UltraPixel mode. It is recommended to use a normal 16 million pixel self timer to be more natural.

Endurance
HTC has plugged a 2500mAh battery into U Play, so it is not surprising that the official promotion can talk for 15 hours. In the endurance test of phonearena, HTC U Play persisted for 8 hours and 56 minutes. Although it is still a long way from 11 hours of Galaxy A5 (2017), the performance of nearly 9 hours is quite excellent. The U Play equipped with MediaTek chips is also equipped with a fast charge for emergencies.
tail
HTC U Play provides a beautiful appearance, a simple and usable UI, and a good camera, but its competitors are all strong in the middle: Gaalxy A5(2017)、Moto G5 Plus、 Glory 8 is not a fuel efficient lamp. Although U Play has a better screen and camera performance is also good, the Galaxy A5 (2017) has a stronger endurance, cheaper price and water resistance; In addition, the Galaxy S7 can even be purchased at a price of 400-500 dollars, so U Play has less advantages. Of course, the design of U Play may capture the hearts of some people. If you are satisfied with it and do not mind spending more money, U Play is also an option.
