ODG R-9 AR glasses equipped with Snapdragon 835
At this CES 2017 exhibition, ODG launched a new consumer grade AR glasses, R-9, which can provide holographic images similar to Microsoft Hololens glasses. This company focused on AR glasses was founded in 1999, formerly a military enterprise. At the end of last year, the company just reached a strategic cooperation with China Mobile Migu Video.
ODG R-9 AR glasses are the first consumer grade AR glasses in the world that use Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. Like Microsoft Hololens, it does not need to be connected to a PC, and its system uses an Android system customized based on Android Nougat 7.0, with multiple sensors built-in. The R-9 glasses are expected to sell at $1799, equivalent to about 12500 yuan, but even that is far less than the R7 glasses at $2750 (equivalent to about 19200 yuan). The developer version will be launched in the second quarter of 2017. R9 AR glasses are equipped with double 1080 resolution light field transparent glasses and a 50 degree vertical viewing angle.
In actual experience, the field of view angle of ODG R-9 is larger than that of Microsoft Hololens, it is simpler to wear than Hololens, and its weight is also significantly lighter. It feels good in the application of demonstration, and the delay is not high. However, compared with the number of cameras in Hololens, the number of cameras is really too small.
