Although Meilan X was upstaged by its big brother PRO 6 Plus at the press conference, there are still many highlights on Meilan X: the first launch of MediaTek Helio P20, Meizu's unusual double-sided glass design, and its flagship IMX386, which makes people wonder how powerful this Meizu built machine is? Is it worth the starting price of 1699?
Non family design
In terms of ID design, Magic Blue X is more like reworking and polishing the previous U20. The improvement of details and some configurations also makes it different from the U20. At the same time, it has added dazzling bright lines and ceramic coating, which can be said that the appearance of Magic Blue X is more attractive. Unfortunately, the effect of the white model is not obvious. It is better to choose blue or black for those who prefer a slightly sultry appearance. Unexpected screen performance
For the Meilan X screen, Meizu said that it is the best screen in the Meilan series so far. It uses Sharp TDDI Full InCell screen: 5.5 inches in size+1080P resolution. It is unnecessary to introduce too many advertising words. Let's see the actual performance.
The official parameters of this screen are the contrast of 1500:1 and the maximum brightness of 500 nits. The actual contrast is 1127:1 and the maximum brightness is 497 nits. The color gamut covers 100% sRGB, 82.7% Adobe RGB and 78.9% NTSC.
The default color temperature is about 8000K. Meizu continues to adjust the cold screen. However, in terms of color standard, Meilan X performs very well, with an average Delta E of 2.2, and the highest Delta E of only 3.6. As a reference, the average Delta E of Samsung Note5 is 1.8, and that of iPhone 7 is 1.6. It can be said that this screen of Meilan X is second only to the flagship model in terms of color standard.
Flyme+P20
Meilan X is pre equipped with Flyme5, the detailed version number is 5.2.8.0A, based on Android 6.0.1. After years of improvement, Flyme has gotten rid of Bugme's title, and the system has also turned from focusing on small but beautiful to popular. However, the interface is still the same style we are familiar with. For Meizu's old users, it can basically be seamless transition, and there are many functions such as mBack, Meilan X.
Of course, what makes Meilan X more interesting in terms of hardware configuration this time is the strength of MediaTek's Helio P20 and LPDDR4X low-power memory. Without delay, we should quickly present the actual test run of the real machine to see how much P20 has improved compared with P10. On GeekBench, the scores of single core and multi-core have improved a lot compared to P10. In particular, the scores of multi-core even exceed Snapdragon 650. However, the gap between the scores of single core and multi-core is still obvious. The test of RAR is also similar to that of GeekBench. Thanks to the large number of cores, it performs better on multithreading than Snapdragon 650.
In terms of GPU testing, P20 also has a corresponding improvement, but compared with Qualcomm's Snapdragon, it can only be said that MediaTek has to continue to work hard. Now, the advantage of P20 is the result of the main frequency increase brought by the process upgrade, and there is no improvement in the architecture. The read/write speed of the built-in ROM is close to that of the U20, with more than 200 reads and 80 writes. The read speed is normal, but the write speed is slightly slow.
In actual use, there are not many cases where Meilan X P20 is fully open. Even in the high-performance mode, large games basically open only four high-frequency cores, but they often switch back and forth with four low-frequency cores, and will not use high-frequency cores for a long time. In general applications, though there is no case of "one core is difficult, seven cores are around", cancer applications such as microblog can only make Meilan X fully open for 2 seconds, and then it becomes four low-frequency cores to continue the war, so it is unclear how the P20 heats up when it is fully open.
Performance of IMX386
Meilan X is the first machine in Meilan series to use IMX386. Previously, this CMOS was only used on MX6 and PRO 6s, and the latest flagship PRO 6 Plus was also naturally equipped. So this time we found PRO 6s and Huawei P9 using IMX286 as a comparison to see how strong Meilan X is. (P9 uses the standard mode in the whole process)
Meilan X daytime sample
Huawei P9 daytime sample
PRO 6s daytime sample
From the proof, it can be seen that the picture size and wide angle of the three are quite similar. P9 suffers from a loss in white balance because of the high color saturation caused by the default Leica color mixing, but the image look and feel is more pleasing than that of Magenta X/PRO 6s. In this group of samples, the white balance of methylene blue X is the best, and PRO 6s is blue, but P9 is the best in discrimination. The performance of methylene blue X is also significantly weaker than that of P9 and PRO 6s.
In this group of proofs, the white balance of P9 did not drift very seriously, and the three were relatively close. But outside the focus area, the image quality of Magic Blue X declined sharply, and P9 and PRO 6s led in this area.
In this group of samples, Magic Blue X has the highest color saturation, P9 has the weakest detail among the three, but the white balance is the most accurate. PRO 6s and Magic Blue X have similar performance, and the appearance of PRO 6s is slightly better. In the daytime proof, the biggest weakness of Meilan X lies in its analytical power. Because of the difference in the camera lens and ISP, this gap is also expected.
In low light environment, the performance of the three is quite different. P9 will automatically increase the brightness of the screen in low light. The performance of PRO 6s and Magic Blue X is far different from that of daytime. In this group of samples, although the white balance of Magic Blue X is still the best one, there are quite a lot of noise points. After P9 forcibly raises the brightness, the noise points are similar to those of Magic Blue X. The appearance of PRO 6s is slightly better, but the smearing marks are obvious, which is also the reason why it looks less noisy.
In the absence of any lighting, the performance of Magic Blue X is also the worst of the three. Not only is the brightness of the picture the lowest, but also the noise is the most, and the content of the picture is the least. Huawei P9 has the highest brightness and the richest picture content. The noise control is barely acceptable. The noise control of PRO 6s is the best, but the sense of smearing is still the same. The appearance is the best of the three.
P9 performs best in anti glare, and PRO 6s is a bit unexpected at the bottom. Magic Blue X can only be described as ordinary. P9 is the best of the three in terms of discrimination and picture tolerance. The only failure is the white balance mentioned earlier. After all, Leica tinting.
In the performance of the indoor proof, Magic Blue X was the worst, but the gap was not obvious, mainly because its discrimination and picture tolerance were slightly inferior. In addition, this time, Magic Blue X was completely defeated in recovering the weak white balance. P9 was quite close to PRO 6s, mainly because of the color saturation zone. It can be said that Meilan X has not been abandoned by P9 or PRO 6s much in daytime performance, but the night proof gap is really large, which is related to Meilan's positioning.
P20's endurance
In addition to the performance improvement, the endurance of MediaTek P20 is also a key point. After all, MediaTek now has such a big advantage. The battery size of methylene blue X is 3200mAh, which is slightly smaller than the 3260mAh of U20. The actual test result shows that the final remaining 78% of methylene blue X is slightly better than the U20 using P10. This endurance performance can be said that the power consumption control of P20 is quite good, and the 16nm process seems to have contributed a lot.
tail
In the days of evaluating Meilan X, Meilan X gave a very regular impression, not an amazing appearance, and the upgraded P20 and camera did not leave a particularly impressive performance. The endurance is its outstanding side. It's hard to say that the price of 1699 matches its performance, but it fully shows that Meilan X and U20 are mainly offline markets. It's worth letting consumers vote.
