IDC: Global smart watch shipments fell 51% in the third quarter

On October 24, US time, IDC Consulting released the third quarter shipments of global smart watches in 2016. According to the data provided by IDC, the performance of smart watches in the third quarter of 2016 was unsatisfactory. The global shipment of smart watches was only 2.7 million, down 51% from the third quarter of last year! Ramon Llamas, research manager of IDC wearable team, said that the sharp year-on-year drop in the shipment of smart watches in this quarter may be due to the impact of Apple Watch2, because Apple released Apple Watch2 at the end of September this year, compared with March last year. The reason why the shipment of smart watches in the third quarter of last year was so high was closely related to the massive distribution of the Apple Watch generation. So far, Apple Watch2 has only been on the market for a few weeks.

Affected by Apple Watch2, Apple's share of smart watches fell 71.6% year on year, 70.2% in the third quarter of 2015, and 41.3% in 2016. However, Apple is still far ahead of other smart watch brands. It is worth noting that although Lenovo (Moto) ranked fourth in the global market share, its market share fell 73.3% year on year in the third quarter of last year. In the third quarter of this year, Lenovo shipped only 100000 smart watches.
