As LeTV has basically completed the merger and acquisition of Coolpad, Coolpad has entered the era of LeTV since then. From then on, LeTV Group will adopt the dual brand strategy of "LeTV+Coolpad", and launch a two pronged strategy to comprehensively cover the middle, high and low-end fields. The cooperation between the two has attracted much attention. Coolpad can not only integrate into the ecosystem built by LeEco, but also make up for the shortcomings of Coolpad design. LeEco has also gained a lot. It can not only share Coolpad's rich experience in hardware manufacturing and supply chain, but also enhance its ability in supply chain control and offline sales. Cool1 launched by Coolpad this time is the first mobile phone product launched after the integration of the two companies, which to some extent represents the future trend of Coolpad and LeTV. Let's take a look at the performance of this LeEco Cool1.

Unpacking&Appearance:

The packaging box of Cool1 is quite simple, with only COOL logo on the front, and no other redundancy.

After opening the top cover, you can see the true look of Cool1. The fuselage also adopts a white design, and there is no logo on the front of the fuselage, which is quite simple and fresh.

As a model that focuses on the middle and low-end market, Cool1's accessories are relatively simple, including only the charger and USB Type-C data cable.

The attached charger is an ordinary 5V 2A charger.

The design of the front of the fuselage is very simple. The sensor, front camera and earpiece are located on the forehead, and the three touch buttons are hidden on the chin. The touch buttons do not have any logo and cannot be found without lighting. This design makes the chin look very simple.

The back of the fuselage adopts a standard three-stage design, which is composed of plastic and metal, so the color difference of the upper, lower and middle parts is slightly different. The middle part of the metal is sandblasted, and the handle is smooth and smooth.

A major feature of Cool1 is that it is equipped with a dual camera solution. It uses a 13 million pixel rear camera combination, one of which uses the Sony IMX298 sensor, which is mainly responsible for color collection. The other 13 million pixel camera at the model position is mainly responsible for the acquisition of black and white parts and depth of field. Both of them also use 6P lens sets, with the same aperture of f/2.0. Below the camera is fingerprint identification. We suspect that LeEco's ultrasonic fingerprint identification scheme has been adopted. In our actual use, its recognition speed... can only be said that LeEco's speed is not only average, but also the recognition rate is poor. LeEco/Coolpad really needs to learn from manufacturers like vivo/OPPO in this regard.

There is COOL logo on the bottom of the fuselage, and the LeEco inside logo on the bottom of the fuselage, which also shows the identity of Cool1. Cool1 gave up the Coolpad customized system and shipped with LeEco's EUI 5.6 operating system. This is the first time that Coolpad mobile phones use operating systems from other manufacturers. It is believed that with the further integration of the two manufacturers, more and more LeEco brands will appear on Coolpad.

The left side of the fuselage is the SIM card slot, which supports dual cards and dual standby full network access. The gap between the edge of the SIM card slot and the border is slightly larger, and the card slot surface is slightly lower than the border. In addition, the combination of the metal back cover and the plastic frame is not perfect, and you can see the obvious combination trace. In order to save costs, Coolpad has adopted a metal body solution that most brands will not adopt, that is, the front frame is plastic chrome plated, the forehead and chin on the back are also plastic, and the splicing process is somewhat unsatisfactory.

The power button and volume button are located on the right side of the body, which is exactly the same as the layout of Le 2.

The call microphone, speaker, and USB Typ-C interface are located at the bottom of the body. Coolpad has a symmetrical punching design centered on USB Type-C. The right side has a speaker opening. Although the left side also has six openings, only the call microphone is hidden.

The edge of the frame adopts CNC cutting technology, which can not only make the frame more beautiful, but also make the edge more rounded and more suitable for the palm. From this angle, we can clearly distinguish the splicing position between the Coolpad back cover and the frame. The gap is slightly touching, giving people a deliberate sense of metal for metal. In addition, the durability of its plastic chrome plated front frame is also somewhat worrying.

The gap between metal and plastic can also be clearly seen on the other side of the edge. The workmanship is slightly rough, giving a feeling that the metal back cover is used for the metal back cover. It is slightly disharmonious. If the workmanship is more refined, it will be more pleasing to consumers.

In order to look beautiful, the size of the opening of the sensor and the front camera is almost the same, and the layout also adopts a symmetrical design. This detail design is quite careful.

The three keys of Android are hidden in the white chin. Although the completely hidden design may need to adapt to time at the beginning, for the author, this solid color hidden design is more aesthetic than the touch button with logo.

The EUI adopted by Cool1 has greatly improved the visual appreciation compared with Coolpad's own customized system. The wallpaper with transition colors is still very beautiful. Its design combining the control center and the multi task menu is also more practical.

If there is any fatal problem with Cool1's appearance, the wide black edge is definitely the first. In the background of such a white fuselage, the black edge can only be described as "wide" no matter from any angle.

Screen quality:

Cool1 adopts 5.5 inch IPS screen with resolution of 1920 * 1080, screen PPI of 401 and screen frame of 3.16mm. After our test, its color gamut is 91.5% sRGB, slightly lower.

Its maximum brightness is 442.8 nits; The color temperature is 9102K, the color temperature is high, and the display effect is cold; The contrast is 885:1, normal; The average Delta E of 104 colors is 3.8, and the highest Delta E is 9.4. The color accuracy of models at the same price is relatively good.

System and performance:

As the first product after Coolpad was acquired by LeEco, although we had expected that Coolpad would have a deep LeEco brand from then on, we were surprised by its simple and brutal use of LeEco's EUI system. Coolpad seems to have completely abandoned its customized system.

However, in our actual experience, EUI is much better than Coolpad customized system in terms of visual experience and operation experience, and the overall use experience is still significantly improved. At the same time, with the blessing of Snapdragon 652+4GB, the operation experience of Cool1 is quite smooth. No matter the speed of application opening or multi task switching, it has reached the level that Snapdragon 652 should have.

It is equipped with EUI 5.6.014S, customized based on Android 6.0.1, and has a number of practical improvements, such as the integration of shortcut switches into the multitask menu, which is both beautiful and practical, and has done a good job in localization.

Processor performance

In terms of processor performance, Cool1 uses the Snapdragon 652 processor, which is already a SoC widely used in midrange models, and you should be familiar with it. The chip is used in vivo X7/Hongmi Note3 All Netcom Edition/Xiaomi Max and other models. In terms of processor performance, the performance of this machine is very close to that of the model with the same processor, and the performance is within the normal range.

Memory read/write performance

In terms of memory read/write speed, Cool1 performs well. Its random read/write speed is medium to high in the same level models. Continuous write is slightly slow, but also within a reasonable range. Cool1 is at the mainstream level in terms of both processor performance and memory read and write performance. It is not outstanding but has no obvious weaknesses.

Graphics Performance

In terms of graphics performance, Cool1 is also well behaved. It is on the same level as Red Rice Note3 All Netcom in terms of GFX Tyrannosaurus Rex and Manhattan, and almost identical to the model with the same processor. Snapdragon 652 is indeed a very stable SoC, and its performance in multiple brands and mobile phones is not much different.

Photo proof:

As the first Coolpad mobile phone with dual cameras, it is equipped with a dual camera solution and uses two 13 million pixel rear camera combinations. One of them uses Sony IMX298 sensor, which is mainly responsible for the collection of color. The other 13 million pixel camera of unknown model is mainly responsible for the collection of black and white parts and depth of field. Both of them also use 6P lens sets, The aperture is the same as f/2.0. This configuration also makes us have certain expectations for its photography. Let's take a look at the configuration of Cool1.

In order to compare the imaging effect of dual cameras at the same price, we chose Hongmi Pro as the comparison object. Hongmi Pro also uses dual cameras, but it uses a different design scheme. Huawei P9, 360 Qiku mobile phones, Cool1, etc. all use dual cameras with the same pixel, and Hongmi Pro adopts a combination design of 1300 (IMX258)+5 million pixels. Let's compare the imaging effects of two different dual camera technologies.

Daytime sample:

Left Cool1, Right Hongmi Pro

100% enlarged sample

In the link of testing details, the main part of the two parts are almost at the same level. However, in the leaf part at the lower right corner, Cool1 obviously has better details than Red Rice Pro. Both of them also manually turned on the HDR effect. Coolpad Cool1 is slightly higher than the Red Rice Pro in picture brightness. Although Coolpad Cool1's noise control is not as good as the Red Rice Pro's at the top of the beam, the details of Coolpad Cool1 are obviously richer than the Red Rice Pro's.

Left Cool1, Right Hongmi Pro

100% enlarged sample

In the test of analytical power, the two are the same, and both are clear and identifiable. However, Cool1 is better at sharpening, which also enhances the recognition of fonts to a certain extent. Cool1 is a little better. The solid color of flowers and plants in the background also shows smearing marks. The red rice Pro is slightly better than Cool1. In the light colored grass part at the lower right corner, the red rice Pro can still see some details of branches and leaves. Cool1 has been smeared together.

Left Cool1, Right Hongmi Pro

100% enlarged sample

In this scene, the white balance of the two shows a completely different orientation. Cool1 is slightly biased, but it is basically close to the real color, while the red rice Pro is seriously biased towards blue, which has a large deviation from the real color. In addition, the exposure orientation of Cool1 and Cool1 is slightly different. The brightness of the trees downstairs is low and the recognition is not high, but the details of the sky are better preserved. Red rice Pro has the problem of overexposure, so the projection of both the sky and the wall has lost some details.

Left Cool1, Right Hongmi Pro

100% enlarged sample

In another scene, the red rice Pro also has a serious white balance drift, and the overall color is blue, which differs greatly from the true color. The exposure is also slightly insufficient, and the objects in the glass window are difficult to distinguish. Cool1 is more excellent in this aspect, with accurate white balance and reasonable exposure. Although the details of the sky are not as good as Red Rice Pro, the main object of the picture performs better. As for analytical power, the two are equal.

Left Cool1, Right Hongmi Pro

100% enlarged sample

In this group of samples, the details and analytical power of the two are still almost the same. The white balance of the red rice Pro is again a problem, and the whole is red, especially the flowerpot part, which is too colorful and looks unreal. On the whole, although both are dual camera systems, Cool1's performance is significantly better than that of the Red Rice Pro. Although there is no obvious difference between the two in terms of analytical power and details, Cool1's performance is better than that of the Red Rice Pro in terms of exposure, white balance and sharpness.

Night sample:

Left Cool1, Right Hongmi Pro

100% enlarged sample

In the night scene samples, both of them are outstanding, and the advantage of dual cameras is indispensable. The details that cannot be analyzed by a single camera are easily solved in these two phones. In this scene, although the color performance of Coolpad is flattering, its white balance is slightly red, and the color is somewhat excessive. On the contrary, the performance of Red Rice Pro is closer to the real color. As for the word Happy Together, thanks to the sharpening algorithm, Cool1 has a higher degree of discrimination, but it is slightly suspected of over sharpening.

Left Cool1, Right Hongmi Pro

100% enlarged sample

In the sample of indoor lighting, the white balance of Cool1 is also drifting, and the overall color is a little dim. Red rice Pro is slightly red, but the color restoration is still close to the real. However, it is strange that in terms of focusing, Hongmi has a slight deviation in this scene, which also affects its detailed performance.

Left Cool1, Right Hongmi Pro

100% enlarged sample

In the dark environment, both of them also give play to the advantages of dual cameras and perform well in details. However, Cool1 benefits from higher exposure, so its detail recognition is more prominent. As for noise, the red rice Pro is applied cleanly, while Cool1 is grainy. In terms of white balance, Cool1 is slightly green, while Red Rice Pro is slightly red. In contrast, Red Rice Pro is closer to reality.

Endurance&Heating&Charging:

Equipped with batteries up to 4060mAh, it has experienced 30 minutes of NBA 2K15 WiFi Internet access and 4G Internet access will last for 30 minutes each, with music playing for 1 hour and local video playing for 30 minutes. After a full three hour high-intensity endurance test, the remaining power is 81%, which is quite amazing. Among the models with the same level of configuration, its endurance ability is almost unmatched, and it is only 6% behind the Samsung A9 Pro with a battery capacity of 5000 mAh. Cool1's performance in endurance is commendable.

In terms of charging speed, because its standard charging head is 5V 2A, we used the LeEco Fast charging head for testing, and its maximum charging power is only about 8W. When its battery capacity is up to 4060mAh, the charging speed is somewhat urgent. Although its endurance performance determines that it rarely loses power during the day when it is used at medium and high intensities, it is difficult for users to quickly replenish power once the power is lost, and the charging speed is really unsatisfactory.

After running the game for half an hour, we tested the temperature of the fuselage. The maximum temperature of the front of the fuselage was 45.2 ℃, and the maximum temperature of the back of the fuselage was 41 ℃. The temperature on the front of the fuselage is a little high, which is hot to the touch. The back is made of metal, so the temperature control performance is much better.

Summary:

As the first mobile phone launched by Coolpad after its acquisition by LeEco, Cool1 has a lot of LeEco figures. It not only has the same front face design as LeEco, but also has the same layout of keys and sensors as LeEco. In addition to being slightly rough compared with the real LeEco mobile phone in terms of materials and manufacturing details, Coolpad can already be called the OEM version of LeEco to a certain extent. On the whole, though, Cool1 of Coolpad has a good performance. It is LeEco's appearance, standard performance, and dual camera performance are also outstanding among models at the same price. However, there are several problems that need attention, such as the workmanship is not fine enough, the splicing of the metal back cover and the plastic chrome frame is poor, the fingerprint recognition speed is slow, and the black edge of the screen is really moving. After all, in this era when thousands of yuan machines can be called exquisite, this kind of workmanship is somewhat unreasonable. If Coolpad can solve the above problems, Cool1 will be more competitive.
