Your private charging station, Anker PowerCore+20100mA USB-C mobile power experience

preface

Like fish, water is indispensable, and modern people are also inseparable from various digital devices. Two things I fear most when I go out at ordinary times: one is that there is no internet, the other is that there is no electricity; It can be tolerated temporarily without internet. What should I do if there is no electricity? Mobile phones, tablets and all other devices become bricks. At this time, you will want a private charging station to solve all your charging problems. Today, the PowerCore+20100mA USB-C mobile power supply from Anker comes on the stage. Its huge capacity makes you forget the trouble of power failure.

Unpacking

Although Anker is deeply rooted in the North American and Japanese markets, domestic consumers are no strangers to it. Anker's products have a good reputation in terms of design and production, electrical performance and technological innovation. Anker's PowerCore+20100 is packaged in blue and white, which is the unified packaging style of Anker's PowerCore+series products. The bright lake blue on the packaging has become Anker's corporate color, young, energetic and full of upward force.

Since this product provided by "Ganji Trial" has not been officially launched in China, all marks and instructions of the packaging box have been written in English.

Open the lid of the box, and what Anker is proud of is written here: the first USB charging device brand in North America; PowerIQ intelligent charging, multiple protection and voltage drop compensation technologies are available.

The inside of the box is actually divided into two parts: the upper part is a box for placing accessories, and the lower part is Anker PowerCore+20100. The mobile power supply is protected by plastic film.

Box for placing accessories.

Anker PowerCore+20100 has complete accessories, including three cables and a nylon mesh bag. The specifications of cables are: USB-A To MicroUSB、USB-A To TYPE-C、TYPE-C To TYPE-C。

The three types of cable plug shapes and LOGO modes that Anker is equipped with are different. The preliminary judgment is that they are not customized for Anker PowerCore+20100, but the supporting cables for different products of Anker.

The three cables are also different in length, USB-A To TYPE-C is the longest, about 96cm; Next is TYPE-C To TYPE-C, about 89cm; The USB-A To MicroUSB is the shortest, only about 57cm.

Finally, let's visit Zhang Quanjiafu. In addition to the products and accessories introduced before, Anker also provided a manual and a after-sales card.

details

Anker's products have always been excellent in workmanship. Anker PowerCore+20100 adopts the traditional circular arc flat cylindrical shape on both sides. The shell is made of aluminum alloy, and the surface is sandblasted and anodized, with a very delicate feel. The style is calm and elegant, except for a LOGO and a power display function button which are symmetrical on the left and right, there is no other unnecessary decoration and switch buttons.

ANKER logo is not silk screen printing, but laser etching technology, showing the true color of aluminum, with good wear resistance.

The only physical key on the mobile power supply adopts a circular design, which is also used as the power display and output switch. The ingenious thing is that the level 10 power display is also integrated into this circular switch to indicate the remaining power in a bright spot way.

Press the switch to display the remaining power and turn on the mobile power output; The power indicator light is white, with 10 levels of graduation, and the power display is more accurate.

The back of the mobile power supply is clean without any switch or logo.

One end of Anker PowerCore+20100 mobile power supply is marked with the core information of this mobile power supply, including model, capacity, input and output parameters, manufacturer and various certifications. In terms of parameters, A1371 has a capacity of 20100mAh/72.36Wh, with input of 5V/2.4A and output of 5V/6A.

The edge of the shell at the connection with both ends is processed by CNC chamfering to make it beautiful and prevent hand cutting. From the perspective of magnified details, the processing technology is very meticulous.

The other end of the mobile power supply is the input and output interface of Anker PowerCore+20100 mobile power supply. The interface specification is two USB-A female sockets and one TYPE-C female socket. There is no common MicroUSB socket on the mobile power supply. Since the Anker PowerCore+20100 mobile power supply's TYPE-C supports two-way, one interface can be used as both input and output, so this power supply supports one TYPE-C input and three port output. The two USB-A female seats are equipped with Anker's Power IQ intelligent charging mark, which supports intelligent identification.

In fact, when I got this product, my first feeling was that it was so big. Let's actually measure and compare the volume of Anker PowerCore+20100 mobile power supply. During the measurement, it was put together with the mobile power supply A1264 of the same door, and suddenly felt that A1264 was much smaller. The actual measured length of Anker PowerCore+20100 is about 18.4cm and width is about 6.3cm.

The height is slightly higher than A1264, about 2.4cm.

The width is similar to A1264, but the length is about 18650 longer than A1264. A1264 uses three 18650 lithium batteries, and Anker PowerCore+20100 uses six 18650 lithium batteries, which will certainly be longer in length.

Six lithium batteries, plus aluminum shell, naturally weigh a lot. The overall weight of Anker PowerCore+20100 is 464g.

Although it is long and heavy, it can still be easily held with one hand. Thanks to Anker's good workmanship, it feels very good.

The 18cm length does not prevent you from putting it in your backpack or luggage bag.

test

As an electronics enthusiast, I just have some testing tools on hand, so I made a simple test on the no-load voltage, charging efficiency, discharge efficiency and compatibility of this Anker PowerCore+20100.

1. No load voltage

The no-load voltage of Port USB-A 1 is 5.1414V.

The no-load voltage of the USB-A 2 port is 5.1415V, and the output voltage of the two ports is very consistent. Since the TYPE-C port needs to use an adapter, the contact resistance caused by the adapter will affect the measurement results, so it will not be tested here.

2. Input conversion efficiency

Before the test, check the charging indication of Anker PowerCore+20100mA USB-C mobile power supply: 5.2594V/2.5556A, which conforms to the output parameters.

Then use the electronic load to discharge the Anker PowerCore+20100mA USB-C mobile power supply and automatically shut it down, then charge it, and use EBD-USB to record the charging curve in the whole process. From the curve, we can see that the charging current fluctuates in a zigzag shape, which is the feature of the soft charging current controlled by the MCU. The maximum charging current is close to 2.7A. The whole charging process takes about 7 and a half hours. The CV curve of the second half is steep, which shortens the whole charging time. The charging input energy is 96.95Wh, and the charging input conversion rate is 72.36/96.95 * 100%=74.6%. The efficiency is not high, but the high input power and the later CV control enable the 20100mAh large capacity mobile power supply to complete the charging process in a sleep cycle, which is very good.

3. Output conversion efficiency

Since the 5V voltage output is higher than the voltage of the built-in lithium battery, the mobile power supply usually has a boost circuit. The efficiency of this circuit directly affects the energy output conversion efficiency, which is the core technology of the mobile power supply. We charged Anker PowerCore+20100mA USB-C mobile power supply to full charge, discharged it in EBD-USB 5V/2A constant current mode, and calculated the output conversion efficiency. Choosing 2A constant current also considered that this is the most common input demand of digital equipment, and of course, different current output conversion efficiency will be different. It is known from the curve that the Anker PowerCore+20100mA USB-C mobile power supply outputs 65.58Wh of energy with a conversion efficiency of 65.58/72.36 * 100%=90.6% when discharged in a 5V/2A constant current mode. This conversion efficiency is excellent among mobile power supplies of the same kind, and the discharge curve is straight. There is no obvious voltage drop in the whole process, almost 4.95V in the whole process.

4. Support charging protocol (compatibility)

The instrument shows that Anker PowerCore+20100mA USB-C mobile power supply supports Apple 2.4A and DCP1.5A, which are later tested with related equipment.

Charged with Apple iPhone 6, the charging indication is 5.2246V/1.0625A, which supports Apple.

Charged with Apple iPad Air2, the charging indication is 5.1358V/2.3085A, supporting Apple 2.4A.

Charged with Apple Millet 4, the charging indication is 5.2109V/1.2707A, and supports DCP1.5A.

Charger Crown mobile power supply, charging indication: 5.1557V/2.0407A, power IQ automatic recognition, full speed charging.

epilogue

Anker PowerCore+20100mA USB-C mobile power supply is a large capacity mobile power supply targeted at long-distance travel, camping, field work, students and other people, adhering to Anker's good workmanship and excellent performance, Anker PowerCore+20100 can complete the full charge in seven and a half hours, while supporting three port output. The maximum rated output of 5V/6A can meet the power supply needs of most digital devices. The addition of two-way TYPE-C interface is the highlight of this mobile power supply, which is a great blessing for digital devices with TYPE-C, but for those who still use Micro interface, they have to prepare an additional adapter to realize charging, and the lack of popular fast charging technology is the biggest regret of this mobile power supply.
