Meizu released its new Meilan machine, Meilan E, on August 10. The new name means that it is a new product line of Meizu, and the price has jumped to 1299, becoming the most high-end of Meilan models. Can Meilan E sustain the title of Meilan flagship?


Appearance and packaging  

The outer package is still Meizu's style, with the words "Meilan E" on the front and the slogan of Meilan on the side: "Good Youth", which is very simple on the whole.


In terms of accessories, there are pins, instructions, chargers and data cables. The headset is not equipped.


The original charger model of Meilan E is UP0920, and the output is 5V/2A or 9V/2A. Although the power is slightly reduced, it is also the mCharge promoted by Meizu.


In terms of appearance, it inherits all the elements of Meizu. However, under the condition that every manufacturer has the same face, the appearance of Meilan E is also complained that the front is one plus three and the back is ham sausage.


The left side is the card slot, and the right side is the volume key and power key.


The layout at the bottom is still the volume hole, microphone, microUSB interface and speaker.


Meizu uses IMX258 for the first time on the camera. Below is the dual color temperature flash.


Screen quality

Meilan E uses a 5.5 inch 1080P IPS screen, with the official maximum brightness of 450 nits. Using the software to test this screen, it is measured that the manual maximum brightness is 415 nits, the contrast is 1001:1, and the color temperature is 7700K, which is Meizu's always preferred cold screen. In terms of color accuracy, the average Delta E of 104 colors is 5.2, and the maximum Delta E is even 18.1, covering 95.5% sRGB in terms of color gamut. On the whole, the color gamut of the Meilan E screen is good, but its color accuracy is poor. Even in the gear of the 1000 yuan machine, its color accuracy is below the average level.


System and performance

Since Alibaba invested in Meizu, Meizu must bear a lot of burdens when shipping YunOS, so this time Meilan E uses Flyme based on YunOS, where YunOS version is 5.1.1 and Flyme is 5.2.1.1Y. Everyone is familiar with the UI and the system. Meilan E has not added any new functions this time. With Meizu's family face, it is easy to get started. Sometimes you wonder whether Meilan E, Meilan note3, or Meilan metal is used?


In terms of performance, the SoC of Meilan E is the Helio P10 (1.8GHz A53x4+1.0GHz A53x4) of MediaTek, and the memory is 3GB LPDDR3. In terms of running score, the MX6 using Helio X20 and the Pegasus 3 using MT6737 are compared. The performance of the P10 processor is not far from that of the MT6753 before. The running score base is half of the X20, which is comparable to that of the 4-core 6737 processor. Compared with machines of the same price and gear, this "core" of Meilan E is really weak.


Photography

Meizu first used the sensor of IMX258 on Meilan E, 13 million pixels ƒ/2.2 aperture and Five piece lens, and the IMX258 first appeared at Xiaomi 4c. How much progress can Meizu make when it also uses this sensor almost a year later? On the photographing interface, Meilan E is still consistent with other Meizu machines. Due to the hardware performance, the imaging speed of Meilan E is not fast, but Meizu skillfully transits through animation, making the user feel that the photographing process is very smooth.

In this group of samples, we can see that the lens of Melanie E has a larger wide angle, so we can take more pictures. In addition to slightly higher brightness, Magenta Blue E performs well in white balance. In contrast, the red and green saturation of Xiaomi 4c sample is too high.


However, after zooming in the sample, it is obvious that 4c is better than methylene blue E. Even for the same sensor, the gap between methylene blue E and 4c is quite obvious.


The same is true in other daytime proofs, where Magic Blue E performs better in white balance, and Xiaomi 4c outperforms Magic Blue E in discrimination.


The white balance is a bit surprising when you take photos with Magic Blue E. In this group of samples, the sky was rainy at that time, and Xiaomi 4c turned blue directly, and this is a rare one that is slightly inferior to Xiaomi 4c in discrimination.


In this group of macro proofs, the proofs of Magic Blue E are white, and the red green saturation of 4c is too high and the brightness is low as before, but 4c is more realistic and more pleasing.


When switching to the indoor demo, both Magic Blue E and Xiaomi 4c raised the brightness, and the light source changed from warm yellow to white. This time, Magic Blue E unexpectedly outperformed Xiaomi 4c in discrimination.


The food samples were taken. In the same scene, the brightness of Xiaomi 4c was darker, and that of Magic Blue E was brighter. But Magic Blue E restored the original color of food well, such as the reddish flower tea and golden chips in the cup. In addition to details, the two groups of samples of Magic Blue E could even be close to the iPhone 6s.


In the dark light environment, the sample of Magic Blue E can only be said to be terrible. Not only does it have no advantage in white balance, but it can't compete in discrimination. The noise control is also quite impressive. The blue car body has been repaired to a dark blue.


The other group's performance was worse than that of the sample Phantom Blue E. The good brown turned to dark gray, the bright red of the tail lamp and the wheel hub turned to dark red, and the logo in the center of the wheel hub had a "new" look, not to mention the blurry words on the car body and a lot of noise. In the same scene, Xiaomi 4c occasionally triggers the night view mode, but Meilan E has not changed at all. It is unclear how Meizu engineers deal with low light environment. Considering that our Meilan E belongs to the evaluation prototype, we hope to improve the performance of weak light in subsequent sales.


Endurance fever

After a three hour endurance test, the battery power of Meilan E was 67%, which was a bit unexpected for the P10+310mAh battery combination. In the game and video part, the power consumption is slightly abnormal, but the machine on hand belongs to the evaluation prototype, and it is normal to have a small bug. The final sales machine should be optimized.


After half an hour of the game, the maximum temperature was 44.6 degrees on the front and 40.4 degrees on the back. This kind of temperature control was acceptable, but it was actually warm in the hand, not very hot.

As the model with the highest price in the Meilan series, the Meilan E can't really play the role of "flagship" in terms of configuration alone. However, when Meilan E is actually experienced, the 2.5D glass developed by Meizu in the more high-end MX or Pro series combined with the design of the metal body can make people feel that it is not a 1000 yuan machine at hand, and at the same time, it is quickly charged to the Meilan series, Compared with the hardware, which is limited by the increase of cost, these details can directly give users a better experience when using.
