Echelon gap, Le Max2/Huawei P9/Xiaomi 5/Note5
Echelon gap, Le Max2/Huawei P9/Xiaomi 5/Note5

Samsung Note5, Le Max2, Huawei P9, and Xiaomi 5 are equipped with Sony sensors of different times. Le Max2 is one of the few IMX230 with optical anti shake, Note5 is the IMX240 adjusted to the extreme (some models are ISOCELL), Xiaomi 5 is the flagship IMX298 this year, and Huawei P9 is the only flagship machine equipped with IMX286 temporarily.

Although there is a huge gap between the software tuning skills of these manufacturers, many people are still interested in the gap between them.

Investigation items and scales

The core of mobile phone photographing is the photographing experience and imaging effect. The main factors that affect the experience are:

  • speed And also includes focusing speed, shutter response and imaging speed;

  • Film rate , the probability of destroying the film by shaking hands;

  • Degree of automation , whether it can identify the scene with large light difference and weak light, and automatically trigger HDR and night view mode;

  • Ease of use , whether the viewfinder box has problems such as delay/shadow dragging/frame dropping/noise full screen, but the priority is not as high as the first three.

The imaging effects mainly include:

  • White balance and photometry In many scenes such as sunlight/light/weak light and extremely weak light, whether the white balance (picture color and wind direction) and picture brightness can be close to the naked eye,

  • Discriminative power Roughness can be understood as clarity, and the sharpness, detail and naturalness of the picture must be taken into account at the same time

  • Tolerance , that is, the ability to show details in the light and dark at the same time. For mobile phones, this is basically equivalent to whether the HDR effect is natural and harmonious, whether there are ghosts, white balance deviation, and decline in discrimination after synthesis

  • The remaining assessment contents include noise control, color saturation (the closer to the naked eye, the better, but Samsung and Huawei will be able to raise it recently to please users), lens quality (including edge degradation control, anti glare, fog control, wide-angle and pillow deformation control, etc.), and many other contents.

Although everyone's requirements for photographic experience are almost the same, for different users, the proportion of different imaging projects is completely different: for example, the number of Maoists who like to enlarge photos and scan will definitely put discrimination first, and the proportion is very high; The party in the circle of friends attaches great importance to tolerance, white balance, saturation and other items, but the requirement of discrimination is not high. Therefore, the comparison will be divided according to different items, and it will be better for everyone to focus on understanding what they care about.

Photo experience

No matter in which small item, the experience of Note5 is a distance away from the other three domestic machines, so no independent explanation will be given.

  • Focusing speed&success rate : The Huawei P9, which has the best overall focusing experience among the three domestic flagship, has no phase focusing. Its daytime focusing is only slightly slower than other machines, but the success rate of focusing in macro and weak light is higher than that of Xiaomi 5 and Le Max2. The main problems of Xiaomi 5 and Le Max2 are the extremely weak light pull-down bellows and the low light focusing success rate.

  • Shutter response&imaging speed&film rate : Xiaomi has always been good at taking pictures at a high speed, and the film rate of five axis optical anti shake is also relatively high, followed by Le Max2. P9 suffers a little in speed because there is no optical anti shake and there will be forced in machine processing.

  • HDR/night view processor speed P9's HDR and nightscape processing speed is slightly faster than Xiaomi 5's, while Le Max2's processing speed is slightly slower than the former two.

  • Degree of automation : Xiaomi 5 has the functions of automatic HDR and night scene trigger. Although Huawei P9 has an independent HDR switch, it can handle it to some extent even if it is not turned on. However, both functions of Le Max are manual, which is not satisfactory.

Wide angle and lens quality

Isometric amplification of samples

Size contrast of the same scenery

Exif information shows that the equivalent focal lengths of Xiaomi 5, Le Max2, P9 and Note5 are 28, 26, 26 and 28 mm respectively. The Le Max2 and Huawei P9 have a larger horizon. The horizontal horizon of Note 5 is larger than that of Xiaomi 5, but the vertical horizon is less.

In addition to the difference in pixel and picture proportions, in fact, for the same object, the pixels on Note5 and Le Max2 are higher, followed by Xiaomi 5, while Huawei P9 is a large circle smaller, which is a double disadvantage of pixels and wide-angle.

In terms of anti glare ability (in this scene, the smaller the light source cover range, the better), P9 is the best, followed by Xiaomi 5, Note5 and Le Max2 (even worse than many thousand yuan machines).

Daytime proof sheet

All machines are in automatic mode, and the focus is in the middle. It may be that the haze on the day of sample shooting is serious and the humidity is high, When each machine takes more than 5 consecutive shots of each scene, but 4 machines are out of focus in different scenes, and specific samples have been marked.

Sadly, even if out of focus, Four mobile phones also display focusing directly . Even Note5 does not have the ability to calmly face the harsh environment and human errors. The significance of S7's dual pixel focusing is much greater than you think.

  • White balance and metering: After several system updates, the white balance of Note5 is obviously adjusted to please the eyes. It will turn blue outdoors in daylight, and red in light and weak light. In real terms, Xiaomi 5 and P9 are closer to the naked eye in the daytime, while Max2 tends to be yellowish green. In weak light, the white balance of Le Max and Huawei P9 is close to the naked eye, and Xiaomi 5 has turned green all the way. There is almost no white balance to say.

  • Tolerance: The former is determined by the quality of sensors and HDR algorithm, and Note5 is separated from other mobile phones by algorithm; Huawei P9 also performed well; Xiaomi 5 performs generally because its own HDR algorithm affects the white balance; Le Max2 is obviously limited in tolerance, and the problem of dark details is very obvious.

  • Noise control: In daytime and normal lighting scenes, Huawei P9 has obvious traces of algorithm smearing, and has adjusted the contrast. Noise control is even better than Note5. The detail noise of Xiaomi 5 is only slightly worse than that of Note5, while Le Max2 is still pulled down a distance. However, when the light becomes worse, the noise of Xiaomi 5 is growing very fast to maintain its analytical power. In extremely weak light, the whole picture is basically composed of particle noise, while Le Max is trying its best to suppress the noise. The picture is the cleanest, but the details are lost seriously.

  • Discrimination: Except for Le Max2, the three machines all have obvious sharpening marks, especially Huawei P9. The line edge has "algorithm white edge". However, in terms of discrimination, P9 is offline in the daytime and in the whole lighting scene, and can only exceed Le Max2 in extremely low light. Xiaomi 5 and Le Max2 can win or lose with Note5 in their daytime discrimination; After the light becomes worse, only Xiaomi 5's discrimination can follow Note 5 all the way, but really only has discrimination. Le Max2 will enter the crazy smearing mode as long as the light is slightly weak, and the decline speed of discrimination is comparable to that of a mobile phone without optical anti shake; Huawei P9 is optimized by using large pixels and dual camera algorithm in extremely weak light, and its analytical power and Xiaomi 5 have each other's victory or defeat.

In addition to the noticeably stronger Note5 and the noticeably weaker Le Max2, Xiaomi 5 and Huawei P9 are machines in different directions. Xiaomi 5 wins from the overall discrimination. Huawei P9 is far less powerful than many media said, but the extremely weak light discrimination and overall noise control are really good, but the overall discrimination is really a big weakness
