Unfortunately, the Meilan U20 does not support fast charging as the Meilan E released earlier, and the output of the charging head is only 5V2A.

The factory film of the machine has very, very detailed descriptions of functions and components, which is still done very carefully.


There is no logo, 2.5D glass, concave home key supporting fingerprint identification, and a large degree of edge transition on the front. The combined results of these elements are very close. This year, Meizu's own products and the same generation of products like vivo X7 and OPPO R7 have a very high face blindness rate.

Unfortunately, the 2.5D glass edge radian of the Magenta U20 is not large, and the plastic washer is high (but the screen is still slightly higher than the washer), which causes the edge to slip and scratch slightly.


The 2.5D glass on the back is the biggest feature of the Meilan U20. The glass on the back is slightly more prominent than the glass on the front (I don't know whether it is the tolerance or the original design idea), resulting in a slightly better feel on the edge of the back than on the front.

The layout is similar to that of iPhone 4. The middle and bottom are the classic dialogue of the hot silver logo and "Designed by XX". The camera is slightly prominent and the flash is not hidden under the glass, but has additional holes.


There is a noise reducing microphone on the top of the fuselage, and a headphone interface, a main microphone, a mirco USB interface, and a speaker on the bottom. It is worth noting that there are two antenna partition strips at the top and bottom respectively. One of them is integrated with the headphone interface, but they do not use injection molding technology. Instead, they are plastic strips with lower cost, which will have obvious bulges to the touch. Perhaps to reduce the tolerance requirements, there is also a ring of plastic around the mirco USB interface.


The metal frame has fine sand blasting treatment of small particle size, and the upper and lower joints have bright chamfers. The key layout is the common left card slot+right volume and power buttons. The machine adopts an AND or card slot and supports dual nano SIM cards or SIM cards+TF cards.


Workmanship&feel&fingerprint identification

Workmanship: The overall workmanship is fairly good, but the antenna has no injection molding process, and the plastic washer is slightly higher. The SIM card slot is relatively tight, and the Home button feels normal when pressed, without a loud sound. The volume and power button feel slightly hard and crisp. However, we don't know whether it is an individual case or a common problem. The volume of our testing machine and the height of the power key are different from each other. The power key is a bit collapsed and loose. Fortunately, for Meizu series, the Home key is the common key.

feel: For the 5.5 inch screen, the frame is narrower than that of the Magic Blue E and the Magic Blue Note3, but the iPhone 4 has the same straight frame and hard transition, which is really a bit awkward. In addition to the warm touch of the glass back cover There is no doubt that Meizu has held the worst mobile phone in history.

Fingerprint identification: The machine does not touch the home key to directly illuminate the screen. You need to press the home key to illuminate the screen like Samsung and other conventional machines to start fingerprint recognition. Fingerprint entry requires 15 times of pressing, and the unlocking speed is also a conventional performance of Meizu. The speed is between Samsung S6 and S7, and above the average in domestic medium shot.

The machine contrast is 995:1, 92% sRGB color gamut, the default color temperature is 8543K, and the cold screen is very obvious. Under the 90-100 niter brightness close to the use condition, the average deltaE is 4.2, and the maximum deltaE is 13.9. The color accuracy performance is slightly better than that of the conventional 1000 yuan machine.

Simple mode

The Meilan U20 is equipped with Flyme 5.2.4 based on Alibaba YunOS 5.1.1. Although the underlying layer is not a common Android, it is impossible for anyone to perceive this difference if they do not say so. The system interface and functions are not much different from those of Flyme 5 on other machines, except that there is a screenshot tool that supports long screenshots (but you need to click more to save, otherwise the screenshots will not be saved by default, and this setting is troublesome for new users). Its simple mode is basically the arrangement of giant icons and settings, as well as the default font size. The ease of use has not been greatly improved.

But overall, Flyme is quite mature, smooth and small and fresh. Cloud services and basic application functions are relatively complete. But because the processor performance is not very abundant and has aggressive frequency control and core tuning strategies, the machine slides smoothly, but loads slowly.

Configuration description: The Meilan U20 is equipped with a low-end 1000 yuan "standard" MediaTek Helio P10 (MT6755m). The CPU part is an 8-core 1.8GHz A53. In combination with large and small clusters, the GPU is Mali-T860 MP2 @ 700 MHz. It is estimated that everyone is familiar with the performance part. The CPU part is barely enough, and the GPU performance is weak. It is one of the most standard and weakest SoCs at the 1000 yuan level in service. There is only a stack of 4-core A53 100 yuan "Imperial" SoCs left below it.

Comparison object: We compare Red Rice Note3 All Netcom (Snapdragon 650), Le 2 (MediaTek X20), Meilan Note3 (P10), Meilan E (P10) and Meilan U20 with similar price segments. This is the third Meizu machine using MediaTek P10 (MT6755M).

  • CPU play: The three Meilans were completely defeated by the same level of Red Rice Note3 and Le 2, and their single core and multi-core performance were largely abandoned

  • GPU play: Meilan E failed to install the GFXBench data packet and missed the run, but the two Meilans still fell behind by a large margin, and the gap was even larger than the CPU part. More specifically, it may be that the new machine is better optimized. The graphics score of Meilan U20 is no less than that of Meilan Note3, but it is still out of luck with large games.

  • Storage plays: In terms of the writing speed that most affects the normal application loading, the Meilan series is still at the bottom, especially the Meilan Note3, whose score is simply unattractive. Fortunately, the continuous reading speed of Meilan U20 is excellent enough to counter Le 2 and Hongmi Note3.


Frequency and core scheduling

The MT6755m on the Meilan U20 basically only opens three or four 1.8G cores. When it is loaded into the game, it can open six cores in a short time and run in the shape of 2 * 1GHz+4 * 1.8GHz.

There are two small cores that have been closed for a long time, and a single small core can occasionally reach 1.8GHz when it is opened. In this regulation, the eight cores of the MT6755 are used as the four core MT6752, and a large core is often offline.

Test frequency scheduling and stability through copying. Test at room temperature of 28 ℃ and automatic brightness of office lights:

  • 8-core full open copy machine, floating point operation performance is 32.9 GFLOPS (820 is about 120);

  • Strangely, the Meilan U20 still cannot be fully opened with 8 cores. The highest frequency is 1.8GHz * 4+1.0GHz * 2. It can only last for 280 seconds;

  • After that, the frequency was reduced to 1.5GHz * 4+0.8GHz * 2, and it lasted for 530 seconds (25GFLOPS) without further frequency reduction.

I have to say that the A53 is really a very power saving core. The whole machine is only warm and the CPU power consumption is much smaller than the GPU.


Summary evaluation

The original MT6755 is very weak, and this is still with m, Meizu even locked two small cores, resulting in more weak performance, but the heat control is very good, even if the copying machine is only slightly warm for 8 minutes, but the software shows that the maximum core temperature is 63 degrees, and the other temperatures are between 40-50 degrees (probably due to poor heat transfer of the fuselage, or software detection data error).

Although the performance is weak, daily use can still ensure food and clothing, and there will be no obvious stuttering when sliding. However, if you use the flagship Android, it is easy to detect that the speed of clicking and opening applications and loading is significantly slower by several gears, which is at the same level as the magic blue Note3 of 799 yuan.

The core of mobile phone photographing is the photographing experience and imaging effect. The main factors that affect the experience are:

The imaging effects mainly include:

  1. White balance and photometry In many scenes such as sunlight/light/weak light and extremely weak light, whether the white balance (picture color and wind direction) and brightness can be close to the naked eye;

  2. Discriminative power Roughness can be understood as clarity, and the sharpness, detail and naturalness of the picture must be taken into account at the same time;

  3. Tolerance , that is, the ability to show details in the light and dark at the same time. For mobile phones, this is basically equivalent to whether the HDR effect is natural and harmonious, whether there are ghosts, white balance deviation, and poor discrimination after synthesis;

  4. The remaining assessment contents include noise control, color saturation (the closer to the naked eye, the better, but Samsung and Huawei will be able to raise it recently to please users), lens quality (including edge degradation control, anti glare, fog control, wide-angle and pillow deformation control, etc.), and many other contents.

Although everyone's requirements for photographic experience are almost the same, for different users, the proportion of different imaging projects is completely different: for example, the number of Maoists who like to enlarge photos and scan will definitely put discrimination first, and the proportion is very high; The party in the circle of friends attaches great importance to tolerance, white balance, saturation and other items, but the requirement of discrimination is not high. Therefore, the comparison will be divided according to different items, and it will be better for everyone to focus on understanding what they care about.

 

Photo experience

  1. Camera interface and intelligence: the camera interface of the three Meizu 1000 yuan machines is the same, which is of the type with minimal functions and good usability. There is an automatic night view, but HDR needs to be turned on manually, so the degree of intelligence is average

  2. Shutter response, imaging speed, HDR and night scene processing speed: after Meilan Note3 presses the shutter, the shooting stops for a few tenths of a second. The other two machines have no such problem. The imaging speed of the Meilan U20 HDR、 The night scene mode is very close to that of Magic Blue E, and the last two take nearly 2 seconds, which is faster than that of Magic Blue Note3, but there is still some distance from the flagship.

  3. Focusing success rate and film forming rate: the performance of Meilan Note3 and Meilan U are commendable. Although there are obvious bellows under extremely weak light, almost all of them can successfully focus. However, the most expensive MBE automatic focusing will have a certain out of focus probability. Manual light measurement is very sensitive and easy to overexpose.

Meizu is the only big manufacturer that can compare with Xiaomi's HDR in the market, and these two domestic brands have not yet adjusted their own HDR algorithm. Compared with Meilan E, Meilan Note3 and other predecessors, the HDR algorithm effect of Meilan U20 is still not improved.

Meizu HDR is characterized by obvious enhancement of dark details, and excessive brightness on some occasions. The adjustment of color temperature is not heavy, but the saturation of green will be seriously affected, and the sense of oil painting is very, very heavy. The availability of its HDR is even lower than that of Xiaomi's, which is not recommended at all.

 

Lens quality&wide angle

Although they are all 13 million yuan, the sample of Meilan U20 is slightly smaller. However, in terms of wide angle, Meilan E is smaller than Meilan Note3 and Meilan U20. In exif, the former is 3.46mm focal length, and the latter two are 3.5mm focal length.


Proportional amplification

Meizu is the one of all mobile phone manufacturers that loves wide-angle camera most. When other manufacturers are using the equivalent focal length of 27-29mm, Meizu uses a wide-angle lens of about 26mm, and its mobile phones in the past two years are almost in this wide-angle range.

The wide-angle lens will have a quite obvious effect when shooting at a close distance. The range of the scene shot at a distance of 2m is several circles larger than that of Note5 with an equivalent focal length of 28mm, and it will be slightly smaller at a distance of more than 10m. In addition to the difference between 16 million pixels and 13 million pixels, the scene taken at a distance of 10 m is magnified proportionally, and the size of the scene is very obvious, which also determines that the discrimination of Meilan and even Meizu series is not very good.

Of course, wide angle is not without its advantages. It can make it easier for users to take photos. One photo can capture more things, which is the choice of the manufacturer. Just under the balance of wide-angle and discrimination, the author is more optimistic about the approach of tendency to discrimination. After all, in many cases, if the camera can't put down enough, you can still step back a little, but the loss caused by insufficient discrimination is beyond the control of users.

The lowest price Meilan Note3 is also significantly behind other mobile phones in terms of its imaging level. The white balance is far from the mark, and there will be yellow green problems in different ranges from time to time. The quality of the lens is poor. Even in the daytime, it seems to be covered with a layer of gray. The edges of the scenery are blurred and the discrimination is terrible. If the light is weak, the ISO and smear will go crazy. The noise control is good, but there is not much detail left. The overall leveling can only record the contour. Even if it is used to scan the two-dimensional code, the light should be better.

Meilan E uses a wider and smaller lens, and is the first machine outside Meizu's flagship series to use Sony IMX sensors. Its imaging performance is also the best of the three Meilans. The perceptual summary is that three positions are better than the Charming Blue Note3 and two positions are better than the Charming Blue U20. The white balance is blue-green, but the range is acceptable. The daytime discrimination power is the normal 13 million sensor level, and the weak light noise is also the best part of Magic Blue.

The Meilan U20 is a very eclectic product, sandwiched between Meilan E and Meilan Note3, but closer to Meilan Note3, the actual imaging is still disappointing, and it is only slightly better than Meilan Note3 on the whole. The extreme quality of the lens is average. Even in the daytime, the extreme details will be blurred. The white balance is slightly better than the Magic Blue Note3, and the weak light imaging is more obvious than the Magic Blue Note3. It can only be said that Meizu put the imaging gap of products at different prices very linear


Endurance&Charging&Heating

Meilan U20 is equipped with 3260mAh battery. After 30 minutes of large-scale games (NBA 2K15), 30 minutes of wifi and 4G Internet access, 1 hour of music playing and 30 minutes of local video playing, the remaining power is 76% after a full three hour endurance test.

The exaggerated control of frequency and number of cores has made the Meilan U20 show a significant departure from the endurance of the Meilan E with the same configuration. The overall endurance is relatively close to the flagship of the modern Snapdragon 820, but it will certainly be weaker than the 4000mAh level of Meilan 3, Meilan Note3, Hongmi 3, Hongmi Note3 All Netcom and other machines.


Meilan U20 does not support fast charging. It is equipped with 5V2A charger as standard, and the charging speed is not optimistic. From 4% to 100% charge, 15 minutes charge to 17%, 30 minutes charge to 31%, 45 minutes charge to 45%, 1 hour charge to 59%. It takes 2 hours and 09 minutes to fully charge, and the charging speed is obviously slow.

The test results of Meilan U20 are not much different from what we expected in the industry. Its screen and performance are highly coincident with that of Meilan Note3 and Meilan E. The more ferocious frequency control makes the performance even weaker, but its endurance is slightly better than that of Meilan E. In terms of photographing, it comes out of the mire of "take a bright picture" in Meilan Note3, but it is not as good as Meilan E. In Meizu, the three Meilan Note3/Meilan E/Meilan U20 machines are just changed shells. Except for the endurance, all performances strictly follow the law of "one penny for one penny".

This is the first time since Meilan's series of interviews that such a serious cost performance problem has occurred. The performance of Meilan E and Meilan U20 is no better than that of Meilan Note3, which is much cheaper. They are really "offline". "Double sided 2.5D glass", which is already a thin selling point, is extremely weak in the face of poor performance and cost performance. Even if the hope is placed on offline channels, the future of Meilan E and Meilan U20 is not optimistic in front of the original thousand yuan machines of OPPO/vivo, Le 2, Hongmi Note3 All Netcom, Hongmi Note4 and other machines of the same price or cheaper.

It is hard for us not to think about what is left of Meizu after the loss of cost performance when the domestic ROM experience is catching up collectively today? Of course, this sentence can also be applied to Xiaomi and LeEco.
