First of all, I would like to thank Walker and Lei Feng for their trial, which enabled me to obtain the trial qualification of Traveler Fin intelligent riding partner.

Traveler's parent company, Shanghai Dabuzido Information Technology Co., Ltd., is an entrepreneurial technology company in Shanghai. Its main products include Traveler's riding APP, BiCi basic concept intelligent bicycles and accessories, bicycle frequency counters, bicycle code meters and other software and hardware related to riding. This new product maker - Fin Bluetooth code watch is the latest product developed. It's my honor to try it at the first time.

1、 Unpacking and appearance

Before receiving the traveler fin, I thought the fin would be a big box, because I have installed the traditional bicycle code meter, including code meter, fixed bracket, magnetic induction line of the strip, pedal frequency magnetic induction line, magnetic sensor, etc., and the installation also needs to route and bundle the lines along the frame, so the package will be very large.

After receiving the fin, I was surprised that its package was so small that it was a small square box. The package of the box is very simple. The outside is just a picture with fins printed on it, and the back has an official website.

After opening the box, there are two magnets and the main body of the walker fin. Why is it called "fin"? I guess this is a pun. The shape of "fin" is not only like the fin of a fish, but also the homophone of "riding". The left sharp corner and the top sharp corner of the fin are marked with "///", which is the magnet sensing point.

There are five black strapping belts and an installation manual on the lower layer of the package.

Two magnet modules, one with 3M glue on the back needs to be fixed on the pedal, and the other is fixed on the strip by screws. Later, we will introduce how to install and use it in detail.

The back of the fin body is the cover of the battery compartment, which can be unscrewed with a coin in the direction indicated.

The original battery of the fin is CR2032H, which is much thicker than the ordinary 2032 battery and has more power.

It should be noted that the waterproof grade of fins is splash proof grade, and I guess it should be IP64 grade. The fins are well sealed. The battery compartment cover is covered with a ring of waterproof rubber, which can protect the fins from rain erosion. You can ride safely in rainy days.

After my test, the fins can use ordinary CR2032 batteries, which cost 2 yuan per cell. Thanks to Bluetooth 4.0's low-power standby feature, a battery can stand by for 2 years, or monitor and upload 700 hours of motion data.

As long as the battery is installed, the fin can work. If the magnet has not been sensed for a long time, it will automatically sleep. When the magnet is detected to have crossed the sensing area, it will automatically wake up.

2、 How to install

Fin is probably the simplest bicycle meter to install. Unlike other bicycle meters, it needs to fix the meter on the handlebars and study wiring. There is no extra cable for the fin, and the installation can be completed by installing the three parts onto the bicycle in turn.

First, install the sensor of the pedal on the end of the left pedal of the bicycle, as shown in the figure, put the magnet as close as possible to the outer end of the pedal shaft, use 3M glue to fasten it, and then use binding tape to fasten it.

I have thinner strapping myself, so I use the black strapping I didn't use. A few bundles like this are more secure.

After fixing the pedal magnet, start fixing the fin position. Place the left foot pedal horizontally, parallel to the rear horizontal fork, and align the magnet with the left sensing point of the fin. Make them two in a straight line, so that you can determine the position of the fin and bind it with a binding belt.


Several more ties are also tied to make it more secure.

After the fin position is determined, the position of the strip magnet is finally determined. As shown in the figure, align the strip magnet with the upper sensing point of the fin, fix it on the strip and tighten it.  

Use a nail knife to remove the excess thread, and the fin is installed. There is no extra cable and no need to design wiring. It is very simple.

3、 APP installation and use

You can download Traveler APP by scanning the QR code on the manual.

The first time I used Traveler APP, I felt that this software is too powerful, too complex, and has too many functions. I need to be familiar with it for some time before I can understand its various functions.

  1. Binding device

Enter the main interface of APP, and the default is to enter the sports interface. The five docks below the software are "Sports", "My", "Discovery", "Roadmap" and "Club".  

First, we need to bind the fin.

 

First enter the "My" tab, click on the smart device, and you can see that Traveler APP supports many smart hardware. After activating the fins with pedals or strip magnets, the fins will flash a white indicator light. At this time, the fins can be paired by entering the fin tag.

After the pairing is successful, the fin symbol will be highlighted next to the fin option, indicating that the connection has been successful. Click the fin, and the wheel diameter will be set below. Set the wheel diameter according to the size of your own wheel. If the setting is not accurate, there will be errors between the real-time speed and the calculated riding distance.

2. Motion interface

Enter the motion interface, click the gear at the upper right corner, and the setting window will pop up, displaying detailed data and opening by default. If the night mode is enabled, the interface will turn black to avoid dazzling at night. If location sharing is enabled, you can share your own real-time information to the team, and you can see your location on the real-time map of other team members. When the power saving mode is turned on, the positioning accuracy will be affected. So if the phone is fully charged, do not turn it on. After the voice broadcast is enabled, the information will be automatically broadcast every time the distance reaches a certain number of kilometers or reaches a certain time. Altitude information can be sourced and calibrated manually. Offline maps support both Baidu and Google Maps' standard maps and satellite views. If we download the offline map in advance, it will cost almost no traffic to view the map in the future. Step frequency training can guide us to achieve reasonable step frequency and avoid knee injury. The introduction of the help is very detailed. For beginners, you must look carefully.

Click on the upper left corner to switch between cycling, hiking, running and free walking. The speed per hour is displayed in the middle, and the total mileage, time, average speed, heat consumption, maximum speed and climb height are displayed below. Click climb height to switch data between altitude and slope.

 

After clicking Start Motion, if our fin connection is normal, the stepping frequency and temperature data will be displayed on the motion interface, and the fin sign will appear below the GPS signal.

The GPS signal is displayed in the upper left corner. After clicking, the ephemeris will appear. If the positioning outside is slow, you can click fast positioning to call the AGPS data of the mobile base station, which can almost achieve second positioning.

 

When the real-time speed of the fin is detected to be 0, or when the GPS speed is also 0, the motion record will automatically pause, and the motion time will also pause. It is very convenient when we frequently wait for traffic lights, and we do not need to pause manually. When it is detected that the fin has speed data or GPS has displacement , automatically switch to the movement state, fully automatic, without manual intervention, praise one.

You can click the map at any time during the movement. The map has very rich functions. You can measure the altitude and distance, and load the guidebook made by others. If several people establish a team, you can also see the position of their companions on the map. It is convenient for team members to monitor each other's positions.

  After we finish the exercise, click End Exercise, and this exercise record will be saved automatically.

3. My Interface

Enter my interface, and our registration information and total distance of movement are displayed on the top.

 

Click personal information to enter my information details page, which can bind mobile phone, email QQ、 WeChat, microblog and other social accounts.

 

Click History to display our recent sports records.

Click a record to enter the movement details interface of the record.  

The track interface can know our movement track. The track record is very accurate depending on the mobile phone's powerful GPS positioning ability. Below is the motion data information.

The chart interface displays the detailed data of our movement in the form of chart.

The data interface is purely detailed data, which can know the exercise time, various average data and limit data.

The share button on the track interface can share this movement to social software such as circle of friends, QQ and space, and microblog, which is very convenient for us to share our own movement records. The guidebook can turn this movement into a guidebook.

Medals are the achievements that we have achieved after completing the goals of a certain stage. Players who play the game are very familiar with it. Every time they meet a condition, a medal will be lit. Medals can encourage people to do more sports and increase their sports qualifications, achievements and rewards.

 

Click the smart device to see the list of devices supported by the traveler. There are many kinds of support, and one APP can control all intelligent devices.

After entering the fin, click the fin to see the current fin power, firmware version, instant speed and tread frequency data. The data collected by air pressure, altitude and temperature sensors are recorded in more detail below.

 

The fin adopts Bosch high-precision air pressure and temperature sensor, so the altitude calculated by combining the air pressure and temperature data collected by the fin itself with the mobile phone GPS coordinates is much more accurate than the altitude calculated by using mobile phone GPS alone.  

4. Discovery interface

 

Enter the discovery interface, which is equivalent to the community of the Traveler family, including Traveler Challenge, Sports Red Packet, Traveler Gang, Events, Traveler Headlines, Leaderboards, Car Stores and Event Partners.

The Walker Challenge corresponds to the medal that can be obtained in my interface. The medal will light up when the requirements required to complete the challenge here are met.

After reasonable cycling, you will get points. Points can be exchanged for corresponding rewards in the sports red envelope interface. This can encourage us to exercise more. The more we exercise, the more points we can earn, and the more cash we can exchange for red envelopes.  

The Travelers' Sect is equivalent to a WeChat circle of friends. You can see photos and posts shared by others, and you can also post yourself.

You can sign up for some open events such as cycling events or sports conferences. The headline of the traveler is equivalent to the news center. In the ranking list, you can see the user ranking of travelers in the city or the country.

The bicycle shop can be easily found in the nearby bicycle shop. Click it and it will appear on the map. Activity partners can search out recent cycling activities and apply to join.

5. Guidebook interface

The biggest feature of Traveler APP is to support the production of roadbooks and downloading of others' roadbooks. You can make any historical track as a guidebook and share it with others, or you can download others' guidebooks online.

 

The format of guidebook is gpx. After downloading others' guidebook, click the+sign on the top right to import it. When we ride a bike for a long journey, we can use other people's guidebooks and navigation to give us information, so that we can avoid taking the wrong way and detours.

6. Club Interface

The Club interface allows you to search and join clubs. If we join the club, it will show the club and its internal members.

Press the+sign in the upper right corner to search clubs by name or directly search nearby clubs.

4、 Advantages and improvement suggestions of software and hardware

After so many days of experience, I can summarize the advantages and areas to be improved.

1. Advantages

The fin itself is small in size and beautiful in appearance, which can be said to be the simplest bicycle code meter installed. The small body can not only monitor the pedal frequency data and wheel turn data, but also integrate high-precision air pressure and temperature sensors. It can retrieve local weather cloud data through GPS to correct altitude, and correct slope and altitude climb through altitude and cloud data, The data accuracy error is small. Traveler APP has rich functions, supports a wide range of devices, offline maps are easy to download, social sharing functions are powerful, and there are many incentive and reward lines for sports. Together with Traveler Fin and other devices, cycling can become lively and fun, and no longer boring.

2. Disadvantages and suggestions for improvement

After talking about the advantages, we should also talk about the disadvantages.

(1) Fin is different from the wearable Bluetooth bracelet. Fin itself does not have a storage function. It just transmits the real-time pedal frequency, rim speed, air pressure and temperature to the mobile phone through Bluetooth, calculates the real-time speed through the speed and wheel diameter, and uses the mobile phone's GPS to participate in the calculation. If there is no mobile phone or the mobile phone does not open the client, the fin cannot upload data. The Bluetooth bracelet can generally record data for several days or even a week, and can record movement first and then record it synchronously through mobile phones. Therefore, in order to make the fins work, the app of the mobile phone must be opened and connected to the fins.

(2) Air pressure and altitude data calculated by air pressure are not displayed on the main interface, and can only be seen when entering the hardware fin interface. The data display is not intuitive. It should be improved to display the pressure and altitude of the fin itself in real time when the fin is detected on the motion interface.

(3) The forward installation is beautiful, but it has potential safety hazards.

(4) . Forward installation, battery replacement is laborious, and the battery compartment is in the direction of the car strip, so it is impossible to operate. If you want to replace the battery, you can only cut the ribbon and take it down, and then reinstall the ribbon fixing fin.

It is expected that the next generation of products will be installed in reverse, with the fin tip facing downward. First, it can prevent the fin from bending inward and pinning the strip. Second, the battery compartment is outside, so it is easy to replace the battery. Practical and safe, followed by beautiful.

(5) Even if the attached magnet is installed, it is too far away from the sensor at the tip of the fin, which causes the app to measure the speed per hour unstable and fluctuate violently up and down.

Even if additional magnets are added, the distance is still too far. The only way to solve this problem is to close the fins in the direction of the strip, which has potential safety hazards. Once the tie is loose, the strip will be pinned.

(6) The strip magnet is only fixed by rotating one screw, which is not firm and is easy to lose after loosening. The next generation of industrial design molds should add binding holes, and bind them firmly with ties for the second time, so that you don't have to worry about the loss of loose screws and magnets in motion.

(7) There is a gap between the two pieces of plastic at the upper end of my fin. I don't know whether it is designed like this or whether there is a defect when the plastic is bonded. Maybe it is because of the engineering beta version. I hope it will not affect the waterproof.

  5、 Summary

After experiencing for so many days, I still have many surprises. The body of the fin is small and powerful. Using the most common CR2032 battery, we can achieve 700 hours of service life or up to two years of static standby. In addition, we also have high-precision temperature and pressure sensors and accurately calculated altitude to record our tread frequency data and movement speed at any time, Cooperate with the Traveler APP on the mobile phone to realize the monitoring, incentive and sharing of movement, and the interconnection and intercommunication between multiple devices. The powerful guidebook navigation function enables us not to get lost in the process of riding, so that we can fully enjoy the convenience and fun brought by Internet+while exercising, making the exercise process less boring. The walker fin is worth having for every cyclist.
