This year's domestic mobile phones finally returned to rationality, and the screen size returned to 5-5.2 inches. The screens of Xiaomi 5, Huawei P9, Meizu PRO 6 and Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro launched successively fell near 5.2 inches (Xiaomi 5 is 5.15 inches). At the beginning of its release, ZUK Z2 Pro has won applause from numerous computer users because of its unmatched cost performance. However, whether it can persuade users depends on actual performance.

We got the exclusive version of ceramic white 6G memory+128G storage. The machine packaging is a very simple white paper box. This generation has not deliberately avoided the relationship with Lenovo. Lenovo's logo is directly printed on the side of the packaging. Accessories include instruction manual, card taking pin, Type-C cable and charging head.

However, the output of the original charger is only 5.3V2.5A, and the peak output is only 13.25W. When the machine itself supports Qualcomm Fast Charge 3.0, it is only equipped with a high current charger, which is very puzzling. This may be a compromise for cost.


Appearance and workmanship

The square shape of the front of the ZUK Z2 Pro is a bit like the shadow of the Galaxy S2. The left side of the earpiece combines light and distance sensors, and the right side only has a camera, which is very simple in design. But the author more supports the design of centering the front camera as far as possible, so that you can look more natural when taking a selfie or making a video call.

There is only a slightly raised fingerprint identification button on the chin, and there is no touch button on either side. In addition, it is worth noting that the positions of the two antenna partitions at the bottom of the ZUK Z2 Pro are asymmetric, and Virgo users may be slightly confused.


The back of the fuselage is a full arc glass back cover, which is the first and only one in the industry. Except that the camera position is slightly lower than usual and the size is slightly smaller, others are really beautiful.

Below the camera is a dual color temperature flash and a sensor, which combines a heart rate sensor and a UV (ultraviolet) sensor. They are all under a single glass cover, which is also a very rare design.


At the bottom of the ZUK Z2 Pro are dual aperture speakers (which is also a rare setting), Type-C connectors, microphone and headphone connectors.

The metal frame is a common straight edge plus a bottom chamfer. Specially, in order to fit the curved glass back cover, the machine adds a large circle of plastic, and it is also a plastic frame with radians at the top and bottom, which is the biggest failure and slot in the design of the whole machine. It gives people a sense of "admiration" by changing the design in the later period and forcing the curved glass back cover.


On the right side of the fuselage are the volume and power buttons. The touch of the buttons is slightly hard, and the feedback is clear. The two buttons are slightly empty, but they are not shaking to the point of making a sound. The workmanship is fairly good. The left SIM card slot supports two nano SIM cards, but does not support expansion. The card slot is neatly and tightly combined, slightly lower than the frame.

The 5.2 inch screen and the well controlled frame make the machine feel good. The plastic on the glass edge of the back cover scrapes slightly, and the curved glass back cover is also comfortable to touch.

The position of the heart rate sensor on the back is just the foothold of the index finger, which is set well. But because the sensor is under the glass, it is a pity that it cannot be touched blindly when measuring heart rate daily.


Border Contrast

ZUK Z2 Pro is the smallest machine to make black edges in history (nubia Z11 "covers" the black edges with glass refraction). The effect is very impressive. No matter what color, there is no need to worry about black edges.


Depending on the ultra narrow black border area, the border width of the ZUK Z2 Pro is narrower than that of the Note5, Xiaomi 5, PRO 6 and other machines, but the range is not very large.

Except that Xiaomi 5 and One Plus 3 are 5.15 and 5.5 inch screens respectively, the others are 5.2 inch screens. The Huawei P9/PRO 6/ZUK Z2 Pro is similar in shape, but the radian of the ZUK Z2 Pro will make the machine look thicker.

The ZUK Z2 Pro is equipped with a 5.2 inch 1080P AMOLED screen, 424PPI. The machine provides three color temperatures: warm color, standard color and cold color. The saturation can also be selected from high saturation and high reduction.

The maximum brightness of the screen is 337 nits, and the AMOLED screen is normal. Use standard color temperature and high saturation mode to test at about 100 nits close to daily use. The color temperature is 7313, slightly cold, but warmer than the common 8000K.

The average deltaE1.9 of 104 colors, and the maximum deltaE is 5.6, mainly because the color difference of blue related colors is large, but the overall performance is amazing. For comparison, Note5 is 1.8, S6 edge+is 2.6, and S7 edge is 2.9. This is not only the AMOLED screen with the best color accuracy performance that we have encountered. Even if it is placed in all screens, this color accuracy performance is also quite excellent and deserves some praise.

However, whether in warm or cold color mode, the actual appearance of the screen is a bit green, and our tester also has a slight problem of the left and right Yin Yang screens and the bottom brightness declining. However, the degree is relatively light and has little impact on daily use.


system

In 2015, three new systems emerged, namely LeEco's EUI, Yijia's hydrogen OS, and ZUK's ZUI. Among them, the hydrogen OS is extremely light, while the routes of ZUI of ZUK and EUI of LeEco are much more conventional, but even in the initial version, their functions are quite numerous and complete.

 

ZUK Z2 Pro attaches great importance to the health detection function. On the left side of the desktop is the step counting statistics page, which has the function entrance of heart rate measurement and ultraviolet (UV). The bottom pull-up control bar is provided, and the shortcut switches that can be customized and hidden are integrated, so the notification bar looks very empty.

 

The system settings page is very simple, with clear partitions. The settings of the phone/message/camera and other built-in apps are all in it.

 

The special feature of the entire system of ZUI is the multi-functional Home key with the official name of "U-Touch", which integrates six different triggering methods: light touch and press, long press and long touch, double click, left and right sliding. The default is to tap back, press back to the desktop, slide left and right to switch applications, and double-click to enter multi task management. In addition to the light touch that can only be used to return, the two long press operations of pressing and sliding left and right, light touch and pressing can be customized, and you can choose between "desktop/rest screen/multi task/notification bar/opening specific applications".

This must be the home key with the most functions in the existing products. It can save many middle and high level users the trouble of installing gesture plug-ins and similar shortcut tools. A little familiarity can help them get started quickly. What I particularly liked was the experience of switching applications from left to right. The response was timely and the transition animation was well done.

In actual use, the feedback of light touch is relatively timely, but when it comes to the operation of physical keys, whether pressing, long pressing, or double clicking, there will be a delay of a few tenths of a second (which should be the judgment time left for the system). If it is used to enter the multi task page, it will even give people the illusion that the machine is stuck, and the experience is not very good. The author, a speed seeking user, can only use the pressing operation on the lock screen with low response requirements, which is a pity

 

There are many functions that cater to senior users in this system, such as red packet reminder, double click wake-up, pure black theme (exclusive for A-screen power saving), etc. In addition, the system also hides some advanced functions. For example, short press of volume+power is a normal screen capture, long press of them will directly screen capture and enter editing mode, but now it is only limited to screen capture.


Dial up, music, application market


Calendar, clock, recorder

The system's own applications and cloud services also need to be improved: as a member of the Lenovo family, the application center is actually a music store, and the music directly applies QQ music. The functions of weather/calendar/recorder and other tools are relatively simple. The system has a security center and basic functions such as auto start control and harassment interception, but cloud services can only synchronize contacts, SMS, desktop layout and photos, and the preset space is only 2G For small slot points, the indicator light is not turned on by default. Many users may think that the machine does not have an indicator light

When the system cannot continue to slide, it will have a very obvious stretching effect. In addition, the response speed of touching the home key is not fast, resulting in a slightly "sticky feeling" of the system, which will have a certain response speed gap compared with the main light and fast systems such as hydrogen OS and flyme. This has little impact on ordinary users, but not on the taste of the author, who is a speed seeker.


Fingerprint, heart rate, UV and other health functions

In terms of fingerprint identification, ZUK Z2 Pro can complete the screen rest wake-up whether you press the home key or not:

  1. If you do not press the home key (tap), it will take about 1 second to unlock, and you can directly enter the desktop without excessive animation. It is worth noting that the machine can still complete the identification and enter the desktop after releasing the hand after about 0.3 seconds

  2. Pressing the home key directly can also complete the unlocking in a few seconds, but with the unlocking animation, the whole process also takes about 1 second. The unlocking can also be completed by clicking and releasing after a few seconds.

  3. When the screen is lit and then touched, the recognition speed is still at the level of a few tenths of a second, but there is still unlocking animation.

Basically, it can be inferred that the fingerprint identification Home key works for a long time. As long as a finger is put on it, it will start to identify. Therefore, whether it is touch or press, the rest screen or the light screen, the recognition speed is the same.

In terms of recognition speed, there is still a certain distance between instant unlocking of Z2 Pro and OPPO R9/vivo X7, but in the conventional front fingerprint recognition scheme, it is above the average level. In addition, the fingerprint of ZUK can be used for encryption applications and the fingerprint payment of Alipay and WeChat at the same time. The overall speed and practicality are good.

In the press conference of ZUK, a lot of space was spent on health sensors such as step counting, heart rate and UV detection. The Z2 Pro is the first flagship machine that integrates step counting, heart rate/blood oxygen and UV sensors at the same time (Samsung flagship has integrated heart rate sensors). However, in the actual experience, in addition to the problem of user use frequency, the availability of the Z2 Pro sensor is also too low:

  • First, the heart rate sensor is placed under the glass cover plate, so it is impossible to determine whether the finger has been placed on it during measurement. The finger position is incorrect, as well as the problem of glass cover shading, which makes its measurement success rate very low.

  • Users put their fingers on the top for more than 20 seconds to get results. However, during the process, the machine often prompts that the fingers are not in the right position. After turning over and adjusting the hand posture, they wait for about 10 seconds. In addition, the probability of final detection failure is high, and the experience is poor. Normal people will not turn on this function again after experiencing it several times. There is no need to worry about the accuracy. In fact, even with the mobile phone LED light and the app, you can measure the heart rate more accurately.


Then came the more embarrassing question of the frequency of use. Although it was on the desktop, it only made the presentation of step counting data more convenient. UV detection requires manual touch detection against the sun, and the measurement process is about 7 or 8 seconds. However, for 99% of users, it is enough to judge whether sunscreen measures are needed. A look at the sun is enough. This accurate value is more convenient for everyone to install. The heart rate sensor can only measure the information at rest, and it can only be measured when it has to stop deliberately during the movement. Moreover, the measurement experience is not good, so the frequency of use is lower.

On the whole, although the health sensors of the machine are more than those of common mobile phones, they are not meaningful and practical, and belong to the function of gag level.

ZUK Z2 Pro provides two configuration versions: 4G memory+64G storage, the flagship version for 2299 yuan, and 6G memory+128G storage, the exclusive version for 2699 yuan. They are Qualcomm Snapdragon 820+LPDDR4 memory+UFS2.0 flash memory. Even today, more than three months after its release, it is still the most cost-effective Snapdragon 820.

Snapdragon 820 uses a four core Kryo core, 2 * 2.15GHz+2 * 1.593GHz large and small core architecture. GPU is the strongest Adreno mobile phone platform in service 530@624MHz . Its basic performance is estimated that everyone is familiar with it: weak U strong display, weak limit computing performance than the same generation of products, but powerful graphics performance.

S7 edge LG G5、 Xiaomi 5, One Plus 3 and Le Max2 were compared. ZUK Z2 Pro is conservative in the training of Snapdragon 820. The actual CPU and GPU scores are almost at the bottom of the same generation.

 


Flash memory read/write speed test

In terms of flash memory reading speed, this is directly related to the application opening speed. Generally, the larger the flash memory capacity, the faster the read/write speed. The testing machines of One Plus 3 and Le Max2 are all 64G, and the others are 32G. The 128G ZUK Z2 Pro should be the fastest, but in actual performance, it is only one of the fastest, which fails to open the gap with the two 64G storage machines.

 
    

The CPU large core constitution of the ZUK Z2 Pro we got is medium (after the system update, it seems that the large core constitution has been blocked, and this page flashes back). The small core and GPU constitution information is above, which are common medium level.


Use the copying application to test the CPU copying, and ZUK Z2 Pro seems to shield the copying application. The whole process CPU core frequency regulation is too negative:

  • With all four cores open, the floating point operation performance is only about 118GFLOPS, slightly lower than the 120GFLOPS of the common Snapdragon 820, but still between Exynos 7420 and Kirin 950;

  • The ZUK Z2 Pro achieved 1.5G big core+1.2G small core in one step, and it became 1.4G big core+1.0G small core after only 20 seconds. The frequency also dropped to 1.3G big core+0.96Mhz small core after only 80 seconds, and then fluctuated slightly around this frequency.

This is what we have encountered. In the copying application, the Snapdragon 820, which has the most negative frequency control, is more negative than the Nubian Z11. After 7 minutes of copying, the maximum CPU temperature did not exceed 65 degrees (it was 95 degrees at the time of one plus three bursts).

Interestingly, in the system pages, microblogs and games, the machine will give priority to calling large cores. The small cores are often less than 1G, but the two large cores are still unable to hold the highest frequency for more than 30 seconds due to the heating problem. The basic conclusion is that the main reason for the poor running score and performance of the ZUK Z2 Pro compared with the same generation model may be Caused by the continuous low-frequency strategy of small cores

The ZUK Z2 Pro is equipped with a Samsung 13 million pixel CMOS, ISOCELL, The unit pixel is up to 1.34 μ m (1.12 μ m for the mainstream, 1.22 μ m for the iPhone generation), f/1.8 aperture, supports phase focusing and optical anti shake, and the hardware parameters are high enough. Before the evaluation, everyone has high expectations for its weak light performance.


  • Photo app: The photography interface of ZUI has been greatly modified. The interface is relatively novel, but the logic is strange, the practicality is average, and there is still much room for improvement. Click or slide down the viewfinder box to call up the mode switch button of hexagonal arrangement, but the adjustable item is only the picture proportion. The filter can be switched by sliding the screen from left to right, but no prompt is displayed in the default mode, which is too deep.

  • Experience: The overall photo taking experience is average. The manual light metering of the viewfinder is too sensitive, and almost all the manual focusing frames will be overexposed, so they have to be manually adjusted back. With automatic HDR but no night view mode (which is also very rare), it is a worry free type without user intervention throughout the journey

  • Focus: The phase focusing speed and dark light success rate are both good, and the pre focusing performance is also good, but the focus will occasionally be out of focus in weak light, which belongs to the normal level of this generation.

  • Speed: The shutter response and film forming speed are fast. After the HDR is triggered, the imaging speed is average, and the shooting will get stuck for nearly half a second. This is one of the few flagship machines that still process HDR samples in the foreground (almost all are changed to background processing, which will not affect real-time shooting).

  • Film rate: The film forming rate is high even in dark light, and the anti shake effect is obvious



  • metering: The accuracy needs to be improved. Although the degree is acceptable, the daytime metering is slightly darker than what the naked eye sees, and the metering under light and weak light is in turn higher than what the naked eye sees.

  • White balance and saturation: It is relatively stable and slightly cold. In addition to the high green saturation, other colors are slightly low in saturation

  • Tolerance and contrast: The tolerance of the whole film is general, which is worse than that of the IMX298 equivalent Sony CMOS. In sunny days, HDR mode should be always available for exterior scenes. The contrast is slightly higher, which makes the picture more transparent, but the dark part is easier to become black.


  • Lens quality: The edge has a certain degree of image quality degradation and deformation, but the anti glare ability is good.

  • Noise and detail processing: There are slight sharpening and smearing. Large areas of solid color scenes such as daytime sky are smeared cleanly, but even if there is obvious smearing under weak light, large noise points will remain, and the details look ordinary.

  • Discrimination: The daytime discrimination was better than expected, and there was little pressure to win 12 million pixel models such as iPhone. There are optical anti shake and large pixels in the light and weak light scenes, which were expected to be very high, but the machine did not introduce multi frame synthesis algorithms such as night scene mode. The actual performance is general, and the loss of details caused by smearing is relatively serious, the noise control is poor, and the weak light performance is even worse than P9 and Xiaomi5.

HDR algorithm: when it is turned on, the color temperature will turn yellow and warm, the details of bright parts will be significantly improved, the edge of objects will be processed well, and there is no obvious ghost phenomenon. Although the discrimination force is slightly lost, the tolerance of the machine itself is not high. It is recommended to keep the automatic HDR switch open.


Endurance&Heating&Charging

The ZUK Z2 Pro is equipped with 3100mAh batteries. After 30 minutes of large-scale games (NBA 2K15), 30 minutes of wifi and 4G Internet access, 1 hour of music playing and 30 minutes of local video playing, the remaining power is 74% after a full three hour endurance test. 8 hours with the gateway 4G on Wifi standby, power down 2%

The previous problem was the frequency reduction of the big black spot, which resulted in the excellent performance of endurance. The proud V8, which pressed the 3500mAh battery, was the best domestic Snapdragon 820 model in the current service, and was better than the Xiaomi 5, which was dominated by the screen size before.

 

The heat control of the ZUK Z2 Pro is not ideal: after 25 minutes of NBA 2K15, the highest temperature on the front appears at the upper right corner of the screen, 47.5 degrees, and the highest temperature on the back appears at the left side of the camera, 47.6 degrees. The actual feeling is quite hot, and there is local high heat on the left side of the camera. It is estimated that the SoC is below. Fortunately, the fever of non game scenes of the machine is relatively normal.

   

The official ZUK Z2 Pro did not send the fast charging head, so we used the fast charging head that supports Qualcomm's fast charging 3.0 for comparison test (Le 2's charging head). During the test, we found that the machine had an inaccurate power statistics problem: after the power dropped to 5%, once the original charging head was connected, the power jumped to 7% within 10 seconds, but the 7% power fell back after the charging head was unplugged. If it is a bug, I hope the manufacturer can repair it.

In terms of actual charging speed, there is almost no difference between the charging speed of the original charger and the fast charger. It takes about 70 minutes to charge 90% of the battery after 30 minutes, and it takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes to fully charge. The performance is not very good. The quick charger can't speed up the charging, and users don't need to buy it again, but this is still a sad story.

The ZUK Z2 Pro has a good appearance and workmanship. Although the visual impression is ordinary, the screen color accuracy performance is excellent, and fingerprint recognition availability is high; The system has many advanced functions, but the basic functions have not been completed, and the overall degree of completion is average; The CPU regulation is relatively passive, resulting in the inability to fully exert its performance, which results in better endurance, but poor heat control and average fast charging performance; There are top camera hardware, but the actual performance can only rank up to the level of domestic middle and upper reaches.

When the machine was first released, it was highly praised by netizens and geeks with the super high cost performance of only 2699 yuan for the 6G memory+128G storage version and the outrageous camera. Unfortunately, the actual performance is a little different from everyone's expectations. Of course, despite the high expectations, it is a good machine in itself. Apart from fast charging and frequency reduction, there are no big slots.

Moreover, for users who like the small screen flagship, but do not like the Xiaomi 5 or Huawei P9, there are not many options in this price range. what? PRO 6? Sorry, it is really not one of the flagship aircraft now.
