Appearance and workmanship

  • White balance/saturation: the contrast and saturation of the machine are very high, even in weak light, there is a relatively high color saturation. The white balance tends to be blue and cold to a certain extent. Shooting colorful scenery such as flowers and green leaves will be more pleasing to the eye.

  • Discrimination: The sharpening trace of the finished product is very light, and the discrimination and dark noise control are the conventional performance of the 13 million pixel camera of the domestic mobile phone. Because there is no optical anti shake, the discrimination will be significantly reduced in indoor, lighting and other slightly weak scenes.

On the whole, the imaging of this camera is not different from that of the previous generation of domestic flagship, and the performance is satisfactory.

Huawei G9 Youth Edition (not all Netcom Edition) and Glory 5C are the only models equipped with Kirin 650 for the time being. For many users, the performance of this SoC is the biggest suspense of the machine. Kirin 650 adopts the 16nmFF+process, 4 * 2.0GHz A53+4 * 1.7GHz A53, and the GPU is T830MP2. From the parameter point of view, it is Huawei's customary "strong U and weak display" setting.

Kirin 650 is like the Helio P10 (MT6755) with a 16nm process and a small cluster of core high-frequency versions. Of course, the author also agrees with this. On mid and low-end SoCs, the improvement of CPU performance will lead to a significant improvement in fluency, while the target users themselves have few game requirements.

In order to compare the performance of Kirin 650, we found MT6755 (the test machine is OPPO R9), MT6795 (the test machine is Hongmi Note3 dual Netcom version) and Snapdragon 616 (the test machine is Hongmi 3) with the same 8-core A53 size core structure as the comparison objects.

  • MT6755 is the mid end SoC of MTK's traffic volume this year. It is used on OPPO R9, Meilan Note3 and other machines. The MT6755 adopts a 28nm process. Generally, four "small cores" can run 1.4-1.5GHz, while four "big cores" can only run 2-3 at 2.0GHz at the same time. Even though there are many performance constraints, these models have shown good fluency, so the author's personal expectation for the CPU performance of Kirin 650 is relatively high.

  • MT6795 is the last generation of high-end SoC of MediaTek. The highest dominant frequency can reach 2.2GHz, 28nm process. The Snapdragon 616 is a common choice for domestic mid end all Netcom machines. The 28nm process, 4 * 1.2GHz+4 * 1.5GHz, and the actual CPU performance should be the weakest of the four.

The actual score running result is directly related to the dominant frequency of large and small cores. The CPU ranking is 6795>Kirin 650>6755>>Snapdragon 616. In detail, Kirin 650, the most advanced in manufacturing process, not only beat the 6755 with the highest frequency of 2.0GHz, but also beat the 6795 with the higher dominant frequency in the single core test of GeekBench3.

Among them, the "small core" of Kirin 650 has a higher frequency, and all scores are better than 6755. However, in the multi-core and multithreading test, there is still a certain gap between Kirin 650 and 6795 with 8 cores and a maximum of 2.2GHz. For the GPU, Kirin 650 is also stronger than 6755 and weaker than 6795, but the gap is more even. It will have some pressure to play large games. The reading and writing performance also depends on the performance of the matched eMMC chip. The reading speed of the machine is good, but the writing speed is average.


CPU of Kirin 650 There is no core setting and frequency The regulation is very active. You can often run at the highest frequency. The secondary frequency is 1.3GHz+1.4GHz. Even when the core is idle, it can be set at 1.4GHz, which is crazy.


It is reflected that in actual use, there is little pressure on machine fluency, GPU presents a good curve, and running Taobao, Weibo and other frequently used (du) applications rarely exceed the green line. However, in third-party apps such as Weibo Taobao, in addition to loading and high-speed sliding, the CPU rarely runs at the highest frequency, which may be limited to control power consumption.

In the copying test, the single core power of the machine is about 0.8W, the 8-core full open power is 1.8W, and it will be about 2.4W when the GPU is added (The software detects the power consumption, and the value is only for reference)

When the CPU is copying the machine, it can always keep the maximum frequency of 8 cores fully open, and there is no sign of frequency reduction for nearly 8 minutes And the fuselage is only warm. When the GPU is baked together, the CPU will be limited to 4 * 1.8GHz+4 * 1.7GHz, but the frequency will not be reduced for a long time. There will be an obvious increase in heating. There will be a certain amount of heat accumulation above the metal frame, but it is not hot. The power consumption control of 16nm 8-core A53 is really exaggerated.

In general, the settings of Kirin 650 in the mid tier SoC are very balanced. With the advantage of low power consumption, the CPU can often run at full speed. As a result, the power consumption of Kirin 650 is much lower than that of the 6755 with similar power consumption, and much lower than that of the 6795 with stronger power consumption.


Endurance&fever

Huawei G9 Youth Edition is equipped with 3000mAh batteries. The power consumption pressure of 5.2 inch and Kirin 650 is low, and the endurance should be better. After 30 minutes of large-scale games (NBA 2K15), 30 minutes of wifi surfing, 1 hour of music playing and 30 minutes of local video playing, and 76% of the remaining power after 2.5 hours of endurance test, close to Mate8, with excellent performance.


Half an hour after the game, the highest temperature on the front of the machine appears below the earpiece, about 40 degrees; The highest temperature on the back appears on the left side of the fingerprint identification module, which is about 41 degrees. Because the back is made of plastic, the machine is only warm handed at this time. The original 5V1A adapter is used for charging, 0-90% charging takes 2 hours and 40 minutes, and the charging speed is really slow. It is recommended to equip a 5V2A charging head for daily use.

The Kirin 650, which we most care about in this evaluation, is indeed more balanced than the MT6755 and Snapdragon 616 players of the same level, depending on the advantages of the process. It is a SoC that is very suitable for light users. It can use sex and control power consumption.

but The positioning of P9 Youth Edition is close to that of Samsung Galaxy A series, even higher than that of vivo, OPPO and other manufacturers. As a midrange computer, its screen and photos are the conventional level of the domestic flagship the year before last, regardless of its appearance. However, thanks to the rapid development of processor performance and domestic customized systems, its performance, power consumption and ease of use must have surpassed many old flagship computers.

Whether it is worth the price depends on how much premium Huawei can provide in addition to configuration. This may be the brand logo, appearance, or even belief. We won't comment here.
