If Curve is for young people, Pearl is for women. To balance the full keyboard with the body size, Pearl is equipped with the Blackberry patented SureType keyboard. When the 81xx was launched, it was the first to carry a unique trackball design, and the lighted ball and its "Pearl" name reflected each other.
In addition to the iconic SureType keyboard, there are many first attempts of BlackBerry in Pearl series. The new series Storm launched when Bold, Curve and Pearl were updated can be called the most failed series of BlackBerry.
