March IMX298, 3 thousand gear, 4 flagship shooting horizontal review
Mori Meizai 2017-04-26 10:23

OPPO released the latest flagship photography R9 Plus in 2016, with 16 million pixel IMX 298 sensor. As a star mobile phone of 3000 yuan, how about OPPO's imaging performance? Today, we found the high profile Samsung A9 and Huawei Mate8 with the same momentum, and joined last year's OPPO flagship R7 Plus to make a horizontal comparison of the four flagship brands, to satisfy everyone's appetite.

This test will be divided into four parts: daytime, indoor, weak light and macro. Here we will roughly list the sensor parameters of the four mid tier flagship

In addition to the 13 million pixels of OPPO R7 Plus released last year, the three models released this year are all 16 million pixels, while OPPO R9 Plus and Mate8 both use Sony's new flagship sensor IMX298. HDR, auto mode and auto focus are enabled this time. The pictures are displayed in A9 high configuration, Mate8, R7 Plus and R9 Plus.

Sample:

Daytime outdoor scene 1

In the sample of outdoor scene 1, the overall performance of R9 Plus is better than that of four mobile phones with higher tolerance. While restoring the low light scene, it also retains the details of the sky, and the magnified details are clearer. Mate8 is white on the whole, and the far body is relatively weak after magnification. The A9 high configuration version has heavy light control, slightly depressing overall, and the magnified details are heavily smeared. The R7 Plus imaging is similar to the R9 Plus, for example, if the resolution of 12 million pixels is slightly insufficient.

Daytime outdoor scene 2

In the sample of outdoor scene 2, the A9 high configuration version best restores the warm color when the sun shines on the leaves and windows of the building. Closer to the naked eye, R9 Plus takes the second place, while Mate8 still maintains low brightness.

Daytime outdoor scene 3

Detail of outdoor scene 3 in daytime

The outdoor scene 3 is a group of photos taken against the light. In this group of photos, Mate8 and R9 Plus have each other's victory or defeat. R9 Plus has more sky details, while Mate8 has more ground details. The HDR traces of both phones are not obvious. However, the A9 high configuration version does not have the automatic HDR function, so the ground is dead. Of course, some people will say why the editor didn't turn on the HDR function and then make a comparison. But in 2016, if a mid tier flagship requires users to manually turn on the HDR function every time they take a picture, it is obviously unqualified. Therefore, this group of comparison sample editors intended to take pictures directly and didn't do too much operation on the phone.

Daytime outdoor scene 4

The sample of Scene 4 is mainly to show the tolerance of mobile phone imaging. This group of contrast is undoubtedly better than R9 Plus. The details of both the dark shops and the pillars of the two buildings are very clear, and the colors are also restored in place. The Mate8 adult is dark, while the A9 high configuration version is overexposed.

Daytime outdoor scene 5

Detailed photo of outdoor scene 5 in daytime

In the sample of scene 5, Mate8 and R7 Plus have more accurate white balance, R9 Plus is a bit blue overall, while the highlights of A9 high configuration version are obviously not well controlled, slightly overexposed

Daytime outdoor scene 6

In the comparison of scene 6, the A9 high configuration finally came into force, and the white balance was closer to reality, followed by the R7 Plus. Due to the slightly insufficient resolution of 12 million pixels, the problem of false vision of Mate8 appeared again, while the R9 Plus still had the problem of blue white balance

Daytime outdoor scene 7

The R9 Plus continues to lead the way in the sample of scene 7, and is more abundant in color restoration and details. It can be seen from the wall texture and large characters in the detail drawing, while details of the other three mobile phones are lost to varying degrees

Indoor scene 1

Interior Scene 1 Detail

The sample of R9 Plus in indoor scene 1 is more transparent, the details of potted flowers and green leaves are more abundant, and the flowers also reflect the situation when the warm light hits the flowers.

Indoor scene 2

Interior Scene 2 Detail

The four mobile phones in scene 2 are evenly matched, and there is a big gap between the white balance and the details. In order to simulate the situation of taking pictures with the mobile phone in real photography, the A9 high configuration version has a virtual focus.

Indoor scene 3

Interior Scene 3 Detail

In scene 3, the four mobile phones did not perform well enough. The white balance was very elegant, and the overall problem was that they were white and green. It was impossible to restore the warm color of the flowers when the warm light source shone on the potted plants, and the green color was basically white. Fortunately, Mate8 and R9 Plus pulled back in details, of which Mate8 was better

Weak light scene 1

Detail of weak light scene 1

In weak light scene 1, it can be seen that the A9 high configuration and R7 Plus have glare problems, while R9 Plus and Mate8 show different imaging styles. R9 Plus has more brightness, but the noise is relatively serious, while Mate8 has better purity and details, but the brightness is very low, slightly depressing overall

Weak light scene 2

Detail of weak light scene 2

For the indoor samples at night, the A9 high configuration version has the best image. Both the image appearance and details are well controlled. Mate8 still has the problem of blurring, while R9 Plus has the problem of white balance and blue color.

Weak light scene 3

Detail of weak light scene 3

The performance of four mobile phones in weak light scene 3 is similar to that in scene 1.

Weak light scene 3

Detail of weak light scene 3

The overall brightness and details of the R9 Plus are better than those of the other three mobile phones in extreme low light, and the details are retained the most after the 1:1 magnification. The purity of Mate8 is good, but excessive pursuit of purity reduces the brightness, resulting in many details lost. The A9 high configuration version and R7 Plus are in line.

Weak light scene 4

Detail of weak light scene 4

In Scene 4, Mate8 is the best performer, and the color restoration under street light is in place, and the details are also the best. R9 Plus takes the second place, and A9 high configuration version and R7 Plus have yellow and green problems respectively

Macro Scene 1

Macro Scene 1 Detail

In the macro scene, R9 Plus is more natural for the excessive virtualization of the background, and the details of florets are the most. The color restoration is just right, followed by R7 Plus. The flowers of Mate8 are slightly blurred, while the A9 high configuration version turns the purple of florets into blue.

Macro Scene 2

Macro Scene 2 Detail

The A9 high configuration version in Macro 2 performs best. The color and details of Xiaohua are better than those of the other three mobile phones, followed by R9 Plus. R7 Plus has the problem of virtual focus. The main problem of Mate8 is that the image will become darker when encountering a highlight background. Although the details are good, the appearance is really the worst of the four mobile phones.

Summary:

Through the comparison of samples in different scenes, it can be seen that the R9 Plus and Mate8 equipped with IMX 298 are better than the A9 high configuration version and last year's flagship photography R7 Plus, while the main difference between R9 Plus and Mate8 is more in their imaging tuning style, and by comparison, The fatal problem of Mate8 is that whenever it encounters weak light or strong light, it will force iso to adjust for better purity, but it has lost a lot of picture details, while R9 Plus will appear the overall blue problem when there are too many blue objects in the picture. A small editor would prefer to take photos with R9 Plus. The simple photo interface and good imaging performance hit my pain point. Which one would you like?
