According to Reuters, Nokia and Samsung settled the patent dispute on Monday. Nokia said that the arbitration award would increase its patent license revenue by hundreds of millions of euros. The Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce issued a compulsory arbitral award.
This arbitration covers the patent cases of Nokia Technologies, the patent department of Nokia, up to the end of 2018. Nokia will also continue to discuss other patent infringement cases with Samsung.
Nokia said that the sales of Nokia Technologies, the patent department of Nokia, were 400 million euros in the fourth quarter of 2015, taking into account the retroactive revenue of the past two years. The total sales in 2015 was 1.02 billion euros (about 1.1 billion dollars). Nokia Technologies currently has annual net sales of about 800 million euros.
Nokia expects that in 2016-2018, the company will obtain at least 1.3 billion euros in cash related to settled or pending patent cases.
Nokia now focuses on the development of telecom network equipment business, but still has a large number of mobile phone patents. Nokia will complete the 15.6 billion euro all stock acquisition transaction of French network equipment rival Alcatel Lucent in this quarter.
