The latest released Samsung Exynos 8890 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 both support the upload and download of Cat.12/13 in LTE baseband. Just when everyone thought that Samsung had finally caught up with the traditional communication giant Qualcomm, Qualcomm gave Samsung a big hit back: released a new X16 LTE baseband, which can support up to 1Gbps.
When most of them are still hovering around Cat.10, Qualcomm's new X16 LTE baseband supports Cat.16. Using the 14nm process to obtain better performance and power consumption, the speed can be more than doubled. More importantly, X16 has adopted a new architecture to adapt to the complex use scenarios and environments of the Internet of Things, and we can imagine what Qualcomm is aiming at.
According to the official introduction, the first batch of samples have been sent to customers for testing, and equipment using this baseband can be launched in the second half of the year. According to Apple's long-standing practice, we may be able to see this baseband on the iPhone 7 and A10 processors. As for Qualcomm's own Snapdragon, 820 is hopeless, and we can only hope to find its trace on 830.
