Apple may officially enter AI

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple has just acquired an artificial intelligence (AI) company located in San Diego, California, USA. The company, called Emotient, uses AI to analyze facial expressions to identify users' emotions. The Wall Street Journal said that the acquisition was confirmed by Apple, but did not disclose more details.

Not long ago, Apple bought a similar company, Faceshift. Faceshift is a virtual reality startup company located in Zurich. It has developed a facial expression and motion capture system to analyze the facial movements of actors, which is suitable for virtual characters in animation, film and games. At present, this technology has been applied in the upcoming movie Star Wars, making the characters more human.

Since facial expression recognition technology can easily present real facial expressions on customized avatars in the form of animation, it has great potential in the field of virtual reality and augmented reality. Users only need to sit in front of the computer to make their avatars more lifelike, bring real expressions into the virtual world immediately, and create a more immersive virtual reality experience.
