Microsoft recently announced that it will change its long-term support policy for Windows. For personal computers with Intel Skylake and updated CPU architecture, Windows 10 and above operating systems must be installed to obtain Microsoft support services. When Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and other operating systems are installed on the new architecture processor, Microsoft will only provide 18 months of support services.
Microsoft said that for models using older processors, Microsoft will provide Windows 7 operating system update and support services until January 14, 2020, while Windows 8.1 will be January 10, 2023. The next generation processor can only install Windows 10 operating system, including Intel Kaby Lake architecture processor, Qualcomm 8996 processor and AMD's Bristol Ridge architecture processor.
For enterprise customers who want to buy Skylake with old versions of Windows, Microsoft will provide enterprise support services for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 for 18 months until July 17, 2017, after which enterprise users must also upgrade to Windows 10.
