Intel will roll out 5.1GHz main frequency CPU

The weakness of desktop PC market and the pressure of mobile platform make Intel pay more attention to power consumption and efficiency ratio. At the same time, desktop and server platforms have also entered the era of squeezing toothpaste to upgrade. Many high-end products have been delayed in upgrading new processes and architectures.

After Intel's Broadwell EP series processors have been delayed for more than half a year, the rumored Xeon E5-2602 v4 will surpass the AMD FX-9590 processor in its main frequency and reach a record 5.1GHz!

The Xeon E5-2602 v4 processor with the main frequency up to 5.1GHz adopts 14nm technology, four cores and eight threads, 10MB three-level cache, and the thermal design power consumption is 165W. In contrast, the AMD FX-9590, which has just been surpassed by it, is a 32nm eight core product. The thermal power consumption of the latter is up to 220W, and the thermal power consumption of the common desktop i3/i5 is about 65W.

Intel originally planned to sell Broadwell architecture processors with 14nm technology in 2014, but it was delayed due to 14nm technology defects. The subsequent strategic adjustment made the Broadwell processor debut on the mobile platform, and the desktop version waited until June 2015. However, in August of the same year, the second 14nm processor architecture Skylake arrived, seriously compressing the market space of the desktop version of Broadwell.

However, the upgrade of the architecture process to the server version Broadwell EP/EX later will be released in the first and second quarters of 2016. The regular version of Xeon E5-2600 v4 series will be released before April, and the top model E5-2699 v4 will be equipped with up to 22 cores for the first time. The more high-end Broadwell EX Xeon E7-x800 v4 series with up to 24 cores will wait until the second quarter of 2016.
