The Apple A10 processor may be outsourced to TSMC

According to semiconductor equipment manufacturers, Samsung has recently notified equipment related cooperative factories to postpone the expansion of chip factories. The main reason is that Samsung considers that its 14 nanometer process products are suppressed by TSMC's 16 nanometer process, and the short-term order receiving situation is poor. If it continues to invest in factory expansion at this time, it may face the dilemma of large idle capacity, which is relatively unfavorable for Samsung.

At present, no response from Samsung is available. According to industry analysis, if Samsung slows down its chip expansion, it is almost certain that Apple A10 processor will be outsourced to TSMC.

As Apple's orders continue to increase, TSMC will expand its capital expenditure this year, mainly to accelerate the construction of 16nm and 10nm capacity. Earlier, it was estimated that TSMC's capital expenditure this year would reach $12 billion, 50% higher than the $8 billion released last year.

The competition between Samsung and Apple has always been the focus of the industry. Samsung took the lead in manufacturing A9 processors for Apple with 14nm last year, but it only took a short lead in the manufacturing process, but was soon hit by TSMC with 16nm.
