According to insiders, Korean LG Display and Samsung Display, a panel company under Samsung Electronics, are about to reach a final screen license agreement with Apple. The two Korean companies plan to invest 15 trillion won (about US $12.8 billion) in capital expenditure in the next two to three years to build OLED production lines and supply OLED displays for Apple's iPhone.
Before that, rumors about Apple's use of OLED display in the new generation iPhone had been circulating for a long time. OLED displays are thinner and have better image quality than mainstream LCD displays.
LG Display and Samsung Display declined to comment on this, and Apple has not immediately commented on this.
Samsung Display currently supplies OLED mobile phone panels for its parent company Samsung Electronics and Chinese manufacturers. The Electronic Times said that the company may obtain more orders from Apple screens than LG Display.
