VirusTotal, Google's online file scanning tool, will provide a new service to scan suspicious Mac applications uploaded by users in the sandbox, so as to obtain more information and optimize the detection and analysis of Mac malware.
At present, information security providers generally find that Mac applications installed without user permission, especially advertising software, are reaching the highest level in history. With VirusTotal, users can upload suspicious files and scan them with 54 anti-virus tools. However, the scanning result is not perfect, nor can it ensure 100% security of the file.
VirusTotal started to support behavior scanning for Android applications in 2013. On Tuesday, this feature further covered Mac OS X executables, namely DMG files, as well as Zip compressed files containing such files.
Karl Hiramoto, a VirusTotal team member, said in his blog: "Users can scan files directly on www.virtotal.com through our OS X Uploader application or API."
