In 2011, Shahid Aslam, a scientist of NASA of NASA of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, invented a UV monitoring bracelet based on the research of UV and skin cancer. At the "Future Design Competition" held by NASA Technology Department, the concept product won the voting award of the best consumer product and the most popular award.

After unpacking, there was only one UVA+B Sunfriend bracelet and one instruction manual and fixed cardboard (no Chinese throughout).
First of all, under popular science, UVA+B band is part of the UV wavelength division. The wavelength of UVA is 320~420nm, also known as the long wave black spot effect UV. It has a strong penetration, which can directly reach the dermis of the skin and tan the skin. The wavelength of UVB is 275~320nm, also known as medium wave erythema effect ultraviolet, with medium penetration. It has erythema effect on human body and can promote mineral metabolism and the formation of vitamin D. But long-term or excessive irradiation can cause redness, swelling and peeling in addition to sunning the skin.

The host is assembled with white transparent plastic, and has 4 buttons and 11 small LED lights. The middle is the ultraviolet detection device, and the two sides are four buttons. The internal circuit board and button battery can be seen through the shell. It is estimated that the host is well done for waterproofing and cannot be disassembled. I don't know the service life of the battery and whether it can be replaced.
The bracelet is adjusted and worn with cloth belt, which is extremely simple and light. The dial is made of soft rubber, and the host can be easily put into the dial from the bottom. There are 11 small holes on the dial surface corresponding to the host for marking and arrangement from 1 to 11, 1 large hole exposing the monitoring device and 4 keys. The keys are:
① Power: Press the power key, and the LED lights will turn on and off from 1 to 11, indicating that the bracelet has been turned on. Press and hold the power key for 2 seconds, and the LED lights up from 11 to 1 one by one and then go out, indicating that the bracelet has been turned off.
② SET SENS: Ultraviolet sensitivity button. Long press the button to select the level of ultraviolet intensity. Different levels correspond to different sunburn time and protective measures, which can be set according to different people.

③ CHECK UVA+B: UV check button, after you set the UV value, you can check whether the sunburn time is reached so as to do a good job of sunscreen or enter the room.
④ UVI: Press the UV intensity button, put the detection device in the sun for 10 seconds, and press the UVI button to read the current UV index.

In actual wear, the cloth band is very light, which is also similar to the wrist. I chose the newborn sun at 8:30 in the morning, and I chose the intensity level of ultraviolet ray as Level 2. According to the UV protection level, I can irradiate for about 60 minutes.

When the monitoring equipment is exposed to sunlight, it can be seen that the intensity of ultraviolet ray is level 2. When you wear the bracelet until about 9 o'clock, press the check button, and you can see that 1 to 3 buttons light up. It means that 3 out of 11 ultraviolet irradiation is completed. After being exposed to the sun for a long time, 11 lights will light up at the same time after reaching the exposure level, indicating that the exposure has been completed today. The bracelet is restarted after shutdown, and a new round of monitoring starts automatically.
Summary Evaluation
The design concept of the bracelet is very good. It can prevent, promote the absorption of vitamin D and enhance immunity under the condition of daily sunshine. It also reduces the diseases caused by excessive ultraviolet radiation. But in the actual operation process, this product is not very suitable for daily use. It is estimated that only those who want to tan themselves on the beach and beside the sea need this most.
