[91 Disassembly] The annual technology craze - disassembly of iPhone 6s rose gold

Every year, Apple releases a new generation of iPhone, which will arouse strong cheers all over the world. This year's iPhone 6s is no exception. Mainland China is lucky to be the first place to launch again. Today is the delivery date. Apple fans should have received the first batch of iPhone 6s/6s plus, right? Today we will see what changes have taken place inside the iPhone 6s, and how the new 3D Touch and Taptic Engine feedback motors have been inserted into the small body. Please follow our steps to continue to see the details of the iPhone 6s disassembly. (Source: ifixit, Translation: 91 disassembly)

From the appearance, the iPhone 6s are the same as last year's iPhone 6, but the configuration has been upgraded a lot. Let's see:

  • Apple A9 processor and M9 assistant processor

  • Available in 16, 64, or 128 GB ROM

  • 4.7 inch 1334 × 750 pixel (326 PPI) retinal screen, 3D Touch

  • The front camera is 500W, and the rear camera has a 1200W iSight camera of 1.22 microns but pixel size, which supports 4K video recording,

  • 7000 series aluminum alloy shell with stronger hardness, Lon-X glass

  • 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi ‑ F, MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, 23 band LTE

  • New Taptic Engine Feedback Motor

Compared with the iPhone 6 (left), there is still a slight difference. The letter "S" is added under the iPhone logo on the back panel, which is 11% heavier and 0.2mm thicker, because 3D Touch is added.

Before disassembly, take an X-ray perspective view.

Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws at the bottom of the iPhone 6s.

Use the suction cup tool to separate the front and rear panels.

After opening it, compared with the iPhone 6 (left), it can be seen that the battery size of the iPhone 6s is slightly smaller, a new Taptic Engine feedback motor is added below the battery, and the flat cable connecting the screen and the motherboard is changed from four to three.

Like previous iPhones, the battery cable is still covered with a metal shield, which can be removed by unscrewing the screws.

Remove the flat cable with a crowbar.

The flat cable of the screen is also covered by a metal shield. Remove the shield and pry the flat cable with a crowbar.

Although 3D touch is added, the screen layout cable of iPhone 6s is reduced from four to three. The glue on the new iPhone is really strong, and we can see that there is also a strip of glue on the upper edge of the screen.

The monitor weighs more than 60 grams, which is also the main reason for the weight increase of the iPhone 6s. Let's compare the screen of iPhone 6 (left). The display components of the two are very similar, except that the style of the metal shield is different and the cable layout design is slightly different.

First remove the shield bracket above the screen, and then the speaker and front camera.

Although the front camera is upgraded from 120W to 500W, the appearance is very similar.

Remove loudspeaker. Next, we can disassemble the screen. Next, we will unveil the mystery of 3D Touch.

Remove the metal shield of the screen.

There is a chip on the back of the screen that we have never seen before. We think this is the control chip of 3D Touch. The model is 343S00014. The naming method is similar to other chips of Apple, but the supplier of this chip is unknown.

Remove the Home key.

Compared with the previous generation, the new generation Touch ID (on the right) Apple claims to be more rapid and accurate, but we haven't found many differences in the appearance of the new Home key.

By observing the X-ray perspective, we can see Apple's latest Taptic Engine feedback motor.

Continue to disassemble. This is the first time that the Taptic Engine feedback motor appears on the iPhone.

The Taptic Engine feedback motor is similar to the ForceTouch touchpad on the Macbook. The Taptic Engine feedback motor can provide you with a real press feedback experience.

Use tweezers to gently peel off the battery cable.

Remove the adhesive from the bottom of the battery.

Take out the battery.

Compared with the previous generation, the battery capacity is 95mAh smaller and the size is smaller. This is also a compromise to make room for the installation of the Taptic Engine feedback motor.

This is Apple's new 1200W iSight rear camera.

The new camera has significantly increased the number of pixels, which is the first time Apple has increased the number of pixels since the iPhone 4S uses the 800w camera.

Remove the hexagon screws fixing the antenna element cable in the red circle and the three surrounding screws fixing the antenna element.

Gently clamp out the antenna element with tweezers.

It is found that the model of antenna element is the same as that of the previous generation.

Take out the mainboard.

Let's see what chips are on the motherboard:

  • Red: Apple A9 APL0898 SoC and Samsung LPDDR4 RAM

  • Orange: Qualcomm MDM9635M LTE Cat. 6 chip

  • Yellow: Ying Meisheng MP67B six axis gyroscope and acceleration sensor integrated chip

  • Green: Bosch 3P7 LA three-axis acceleration sensor

  • Light blue: Chaoqun TQF6405 power amplifier

  • Dark blue: Scarlett SKY77812 power amplifier

  • Purple: Anhuagao ACPM-8030 power amplifier

In addition, there is a chip named 57A6CVI.

It is rumored that the area of A9 chip is 15% lower than that of A8, but according to our measurement, the size of A9 is 14.5 × 15mm, while the size of A8 is 13.5 × 14.5mm, but we cannot determine the size of the chip area. Apple may integrate other chips into A9.

There are many chips on the back of the motherboard:

  • Red: Toshiba THGBX5G7D2KLFXG 16 GB 19 nm NAND flash memory

  • Orange: Universal 339S00043 Wi Fi

  • Yellow: NXP NFC 66V10

  • Green: Apple Dialog 338S00120 PMIC power management IC

  • Light blue: Apple Cirrus Logic 338S00105 Audio IC

  • Dark Blue: Qualcomm PMD9635 PMIC power management IC

  • Purple: Scarlett SKY77357 power amplifier

There are more chips:

  • Red: Murata 240 front-end module

  • Orange: RF Microdevice Company RF5150 antenna switch

  • Yellow: NXP 1610A3

  • Green: Apple Cirrus Logic 338S1285 Audio IC

  • Light blue: TI 65730AOP NFC booster IC

  • Dark Blue: Qualcomm WTR 3925 wireless transceiver chip

Remove the last component in the rear housing: loudspeaker.

Take a closer look at the speakers. The speaker of the 6S is similar to that of the iPhone 6, but it is slightly different. It may be that some changes have been made to match the feedback motor of the Taptic Engine.

Now remove the small board and flat cable, which is famous for high integration.

Note that there are two microphones at the bottom of the iPhone 6s.

The reverse side of the small board has a large area of contacts.

Remove the screws that secure the power key.

Using tweezers, I slowly dug in and found that there were less shims than the previous generation.

Our disassembly is now complete. Let's have a family photo at last. IFixit gave the iPhone 6s 7 points for maintenance (10 points for easy maintenance), which is a good score. The overall structure is similar to that of the previous generation, and maintenance is not difficult.
